What I did for beer today

I brewed a double IPA yesterday. Cleaned the mash pot out today.

    Mecca Grade Estate Malts

This is horrible news. Many people are trying to leave Oregon because of water rights, taxes, etc.

    CO2 extract shelf life

That is the resource that said three years. I guess I will hope that it is the same across all manufacturers.

    CO2 extract shelf life

I found a Columbus co2 extract from HopsDirect in a bin of ingredients. It was a freebie. so I didnt check the instructions. Mfg says refrigerate. Ive had it at room temp for about a year. There seems to be a lot of variation in recommendations on storage, including one who says up to three...

Voss kveik or Nottingham for imperial stout

Ive used Voss in a stout. it was….ok. Id prefer to use Nottingham over voss in a stout every time. I would not hesitate to use Nottingham in this recipe. I might suggest using two packets or doing a starter.

    Whirpool with oats...

I like dry beers too. I found > 15% oats in the mash imparts a a silky texture that can help with the thiness.

    Whirpool with oats...

What kind of oats did you use and at what percentage? seems like this could take a lot of method development.

    Whirpool with oats...

I'm remembering back to when Burnside Brewery was around they had an Oatmeal Pale Ale that was just awesome. It was so thick. It was like liquid breakfast. I've examined various "recipes" that claim to clone that Pale Ale, and none of thing stack up to the original.

    Whirpool with oats...

So I had steroid induced insomnia last night and spent a lot of time thinking... I like using oats in my recipes, especially IPA's. I'm wondering if anyone has put oats in their whirpool? My reasoning is not for increased sugar, but to get more the oaty taste, proteins, beta glucans etc into...

    [OT] HAM Radio Folks?

When you get there, consider this rig. I have a FT857, kx3, and Elecraft K3. The 7300 is the easiest to use, setup, wire, etc.

    [OT] HAM Radio Folks?

I get you. Yeah, I kind of do something similar. I have a super antenna that can clamp the rail of my truck, then I put my kx3 on the gate or a camping table. I really like the super antenna. So much so I sold my complete buddipole kit. BTW, kx3+raspberry pi for FT8 is the bomb! I use an ipad...

    [OT] HAM Radio Folks?

I've tried using HF in a car and decided I didn't like it. Too many small contributing factors. I want to spread out. The 7300 is a solid first rig. I have one (and an Elecraft). The 7300 is super easy to learn and has a lot of features for the money.

    Any Experience Aging Holiday Ales?

That is exactly my experience. Aroma/taste gone in 30 days. I'm really careful with oxidation, so I hypothesize that its some kind of chemical interaction?

    [OT] HAM Radio Folks?

You will have a lot of fun on HF. It's kind of like a box of chocolates....

    Morebeer

I had problems during covid. Shipments would wait 3-4 weeks to go out. I have not had problems in at least a year.

    Any Experience Aging Holiday Ales?

I now age my holiday ales 3-4 months. More if I plan ahead. I found that some ingredients seem to fade faster. The fastest that Ive noticed was ginger. 🤷‍♂️

What I did for beer today

I gave a random brew-neighbor four ten pound bags of grain. All specialty I got in bulk from a closing shop. Merry xmas!!!!

    People that use glucoamylase regularly

I've seen the same thing. It's dryer and maybe even anecdotally thinner sub 40F. Currently my fridge is set to 48F. When I have to cold crash more than one keg, I do it my serving fridge, so I'm always cycling between 36 and high 40's

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I brewed a Scottish 80 schilling. First time using treacle. Thats interesting stuff…

    Critique of oatmeal stout recipe

If you want a bit more "toasty" flavors, you can roast the oats in the oven. I found this adds a lot of nice complexity to stouts.
