    Weird looking fermentation!

Ok, I apologize for such a noob sounding question even though I've been brewing intermittently for 10 years. 22 hours after pitching to a small, second runnings wort (1.040 OG), I have a beer that looks unlike any beer I've ever brewed. I noticed a ton of hot break settling before I even...

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

I already have a thermapen, actually! I love to BBQ as well, and so the thermapen was something I'd been wanting for a good long while (up until about six months ago). It did come in handy for my first all-grain brew day!

    direct oxygen to aerate.

I just bought my direct O2 aeration kit as part of a big equipment upgrade to start doing all-grain brewing. For my first all-grain batch, my yeast totally took off unlike I've ever seen them do before... and I even forgot to make a starter! I don't speak of much experience on the O2 system...

    Kegerators.com OK to order from?

I'm looking into a kegging setup and just wondering if anyone else has ordered from this site. I'm looking specifically at Edgestar Homebrew Kegerator KC2000HBKG on http://www.kegerators.com/homebrew.php Thanks! Mike

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

I'd already placed my order by the time everyone else said to skip the second cooler and to skip the pure O2. I read somewhere about over oxygenating wort, so I'll be sure to limit the O2 time to 15-30 seconds. I think what really prompted that is the fact that I'd really like to do some big...

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

Thanks! I wasn't sure yet how to best guess or calculate how much hotter to get the strike water for it to come down once it's mixed with the grains and put in the cooler. Sounds like you just gotta jump in and learn what your equipment does with the amount of grain you're using, eh?

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

Also very awesome! Thanks!! I'd already searched the giant store for them already and found nothing. So when they told me they didn't have them, I believed them!

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

Ok, what about actual oxygen tanks? I went to Home Depot asking for an oxygen tank at one point with the plan to use O2, but they just looked at me very suspiciously! lol

    Suggestions for going all-grain...

Hey all! I'm planning to buy a bunch of equipment upgrades within the next few days to begin my switch from extract brewing to all grain brewing. My upgrades will include two 10 gallon coolers for a MLT/HLT, a MegaPot 1.2 as a kettle, a basic sparge arm, copper coil wort chiller, a barley...

    Need yeast starter suggestions

Ok so here's another question on the same topic. I just finished the yeast starter... maybe I estimated the amount of water I had wrong... maybe I didn't measure my DME accurately enough, but when I checked the gravity before I pitched the yeast into the starter batch, it read 1.028. Quite...

    Need yeast starter suggestions

Slow, I saw your reply after I posted my final plan. Makes me feel good about what I'm gonna do. :)

    Need yeast starter suggestions

Thanks for the quick replies! I've got about .8 gallons of water left in a gallon jug (I've always bought water at the store instead of using tap water). I think I'll use all of the .8 and around 2 cups of the DME. I may decide to pitch to whole starter instead of just the slurry... who...

    Need yeast starter suggestions

Howdy all! I'm starting on my first "big beer" this weekend. I want to boil tomorrow evening and I'm going to start a yeast starter in about an hour. I'm doing an IPA hoping for about 10%. I'm using an ingredient kit with extra LME to boost the ABV. I have a 1 gallon jug that I want to...

    How relevant is airlock bubbling?

I've taken a sample using a thief. There's nothing wrong that I can tell... at least it doesn't taste infected. You might be right about the CO2 just coming out of the solution though...

    How relevant is airlock bubbling?

snccoulter, If you leave the beer set for weeks on end... doesn't there come a time when the beer NEEDS to be bottled and will develop off flavors if not bottled?

    How relevant is airlock bubbling?

Hello everyone... I'm fairly new to brewing my own beer and I've got a batch of beer that I started almost four weeks ago now. It's taken some time to ferment and I'm going to check the gravity again tonight to see if I'm ready to bottle. It started at 1.070 and last read (on Sunday) at...
