Mosaic hops too strong for wheat?

I bought some berries and froze them. Read somewhere to mix them with some honey to kill the tartness a bit...but I like tart.

Mosaic hops too strong for wheat?

Awesome. 60/40 wheat/barley? That is what I see most often. I think with the mosaic + cranberry combination, these flavor will mix well. I did a brew calculation and came up with 32 IBUs. Seems about right with a 20' and 5' addition of Mosaics. Hop Sun is only ~30 IBU, Fortunate Islands is...

Mosaic hops too strong for wheat?

G'morning all, I'm looking to brew a winter wheat ale - something light and fruity to break up the dark, strong brews of winter. I was hoping for a hoppy wheat along the lines of Southern Tier's HopSun or Breckenridge's Ophelia (which are both, coincidentally, summer beers.) My...

Is Beer Supposed To Be This Flavorful?

    ISO: Cranbic

Sounds like a beer I would really be into. Wondering if anyone has any for trade.

Crowd sourcing a Blueberry Oatmeal Milk Stout

Was definitely thinking of using a secondary for the blueberries. Since they have skins, I was going to partially smash them up, as well. Assuming they should be sanitized - but I'm wondering what way might not impart an harsh flavors (weak booze?)

Want to trade for east coast beers

There aren't many sours out here. Ithaca's Berliner Weisse is a bit tart. Game of Thrones is readily available, though (the ones still in production.) Let me know if you're still looking.

Crowd sourcing a Blueberry Oatmeal Milk Stout

Morning All, This has been a bountiful years for blueberries here in Central New York. After mentioning the fact that I'd like to brew a blueberry stout of some sort, the girlfriend decided to purchase a bucket (yes, a bucket) of blueberries at the farmer's market when I was away this...

Slow Start with White Labs WLP299 - Persica Ale Yeast

Last night I decided to brew a batch of Austin Homebrew's Sour Ginger Peach Ale, utilizing the recommended White Labs WLP 299 Persica Ale yeast. The mash and boil went as expected, but I am yet to see any fermentation activity. I pitched the yeast at about 9:30pm and it is currently 9:45am, so...

Truly unique, awful brown ale smell in promary

Bottled today (6/9). The smell seems to have dissipated, but it's still there a bit. I was going to carb with blackstrap molasses, but decided to taste it out of curiosity. It was kind of bitter and harsh and I decided not to try an impart those flavours and switch to corn sugar. When I...

    Different color brew

The only purple beer I've ever seen is Empire Brewing's Deep Purple - which is brewed with concord grapes. Seems strange to have purple as an off color.

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Just bought a house at the end of February, moved in just two weeks ago. I haven't had any time to design a nice trellis for my 11 varieties, so I'm kind of just rigging them and hoping it all works out. I'll have some legitimate trellises next year, and the hops will finally meet the soil in...

Truly unique, awful brown ale smell in promary

Awesome. So it sounds like I shouldn't be too worried about this batch. I replaced the blowoff hose today with a basic airlock. It's bubbled a little bit as fermentation is still happening (very slow and not vigorous), but everything looks clean. The smell is lessened but is still there. I'm...

Truly unique, awful brown ale smell in promary

So I decided to do a test batch (one gallon) of Spruce Ale based on Brooklyn Brew Shop and Kumdis Island Spruce (Joy of Homebrewing) on Monday night. The whole brew night went fine, but in a recipe which called for 1/2 packet of Safale S-04 yeast, I pitched the whole thing. I've never seen...

    Is 5 lines too many?

I have heard a range of answers on this. Since you're not running a full-scale HOPeration, I would train all five. In NY we have noticed no difference in yield from 2-bine or 5-bine plants. Give five a shot this year, two next year, compare, contrast. Science!
