    Changing Yeast from Beer Recipe / Check Recipe

    Voss kveik will give you a strong citric taste, which is not very suitable for a Belgian beer. You would be better off with Lallemand Belle Saison which works without any problems at 15 - 35'C and is resistant to temperature changes during the day. The only problem is that it is no longer...

    How are You Measuring Fermentation Temperature?

    I pitch the yeast a few degrees Celsius above the target temperature because the yeast needs some time to activate anyway so the temperature drops in the meantime.

    How are You Measuring Fermentation Temperature?

    I also use a laser thermometer to measure the temperature of the plastic fermenter. I know it's not very precise, but anyway, I don't have the possibility to regulate the fermentation temperature (a little air conditioning in the room where the fermenters are located for the hottest days), so it...

    Higher temp yeast's

    I might try that yeast before summer.

    Higher temp yeast's

    I haven't tried Belle Saison yeast below 17'C because my apartment doesn't get any colder than that. Apart from Voss Kveik in dry form, I can't find any other Kveik yeasts in my country.

    eBIAB experiences?

    My BIAB brewing pot has a 2000W electric heater and I am pleased with both the heating speed and the boil.

    Higher temp yeast's

    Of the Kveik yeasts, I've only tried Voss and I don't like the result (lemon sour beer). However, I use Lallemand Belle Saison for all seasons (15'C to 35'C), and if you overpitch it, it gives a beer with a pretty clean character without controlling the fermentation temperature. Not like a...

    Scorched grain bag

    I don't have a false bottom and I've never had a bag burn on reheat, but I use a rubber band that used to secure stuff to a car roof rack on top of the brewing pot to keep the bag from falling down to the electric heater.

    Is this a dumb idea for cone heads?

    Maybe we don't mean the same plastic? I'm referring to the PET plastic used to sell bottled water and juices.

    Is this a dumb idea for cone heads?

    I bought a 30 liter PP food plastic fruit barrel with a cap and airlock for 35 euros in an agricultural store. There is also a version with a faucet, but I don't want to use a faucet because it is difficult to keep clean, it leaks, and quite a bit of beer remains in the fermenter. If it is...

    Where do you ferment your beers?

    There are two fermenters under my table by the front door of the apartment. The apartment is heated in winter so that the temperature is around 22'C during the day and drops to 18'C at night. In summer it can be up to 30'C. However, I use a yeast that has a wide temperature range (15'C to 35'C...

    "Life-Hacks" For Homebrewers...Add yours;

    Maybe it's not like that for everyone, but for me the tap water is clean and good for drinking. I add cold water straight from the tap right before pitch yeast and have never had a problem with that. Of course, I inspect it visually and drink a little to assess whether everything is okay.

    "Life-Hacks" For Homebrewers...Add yours;

    That's what I was thinking too, but I don't have room in the fridge for 20L of water, so I use tap water. And it cools me down to almost 10'C. I cool the wort naturally (no chill), so that also significantly shortens the cooling time, especially since cooling those last ten degrees Celsius...

    "Life-Hacks" For Homebrewers...Add yours;

    High Gravity Brewing doubles the amount of grain in one brew and dilutes with water just before pitching yeast to get double the amount of beer in one brew.

    Voss Kveik persistent haze/yeastiness?

    I made a few beers with Lallemand Voss Kveik and Mangrove Jack M12 yeast. The result is always the same - the beer is cloudy and sour like lemonade. I don't understand the fascination with that Kveik yeast at all. I can't buy the other types of Kveik yeast (I'd like to try Oslo), but I didn't...

    New Lalbrew Farmhouse yeast

    I believe that this is due to the fear of its Diastaticus property, which has recently become quite widespread, Although, in my experience, unjustified (the standard disinfection procedure solves that problem, as well as many others). The factory is afraid that the other yeasts in the same...

    New Lalbrew Farmhouse yeast

    I've tried it several times, but it doesn't give the beer the same taste (it's too dry), and it's not good below 25'C. In my personal experience, it is not the same as Belle.

    New Lalbrew Farmhouse yeast

    Farmhouse yeast is to replace Belle yeast, which they stopped producing (at least in the small 11 gram packages). Belle has been my yeast of choice for years, and I'm not sure Farmhouse yeast can completely replace it, especially the temperature range. So far I've managed to build up a couple of...
