    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I saw a post by someone in Australia who was running their business with one of these. I think it was in this post somewhere but I'm not certain.

    Silicon Tubing

Looks good. Think I'll grab some... Thanks

    Silicon Tubing

Sounds like what I had in mind... Think I'll go for it. Thanks Guys...

    Silicon Tubing

I'm wanting to upgrade my tubing scattered throughout my system. I utilize 1/2 barb fittings and have been looking at the various offerings from McMaster Carr. I "think" I want the 1/8 soft wall tubing. Honestly, that's a guess on my part. Basically I'll be plumbing a March pump and...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

This is what I had in mind. It appeared to me the system more or less dictates the water required and the grain remains as the principal variant. Since the liquor/grist ratio is not fixed, this makes things really simple. Stronger brew, just add more grain.... Cool!

Very good... Yes I am ...sorta. I was actually building a system to emulate BIAB* (brew in a "bucket") when I first became aware of the BM. It's rather uncanny how similar my "FrankenMeister" is to the BM. Basically I've got a 15 gal boil pot which will be the basis for the system...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Thanks Makomachine! I can now follow the thread with a reasonable level of understanding about this brew process. The more I read, the more I'm favorably impressed! Cheers...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I appreciate everyones patience, but I'm still struggling with how one actually uses this thing. For example, if you want to make a 5 gallon brew and there's 10 lb of grain in the bill. If you go with a 1.25 ratio then you would need to include 12.5 qts of water for the mash, or 3+ gallons...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I understand 3 gallons wouldn't work. I also understand that the traditional ratios are not necessary applicable the BM brewing. I haven't made any but there are light brews out there with 8 lb grain bills. My question stems aroung the BM system. Simply put, how much water does it (20L)...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Good point on the elements. I guess what I'm asking is what is the minimum amount of water you can brew with on the BM? From what I read 9 gallons is an acceptable volume for the BM. 9 gallons should be adequate for a 20lb grain bill and you should be able to get a good 5 gallons in the...

I must admit his point has me curious also. It appears the system requires one place a minimum of water in the pot to satisfy the flow mechanics. I think I understand the pipe must overflow sufficiently enough to fill the pot to the pump pick up point. So you must add enough water to fill the...

    Will a 25amp SSR work??

Using the 25A SSR should be acceptable for a 21A inductive heating system "if" you ensure it operates somewhere around room temp. SSRs current ratings are significantly derated as the temp rises. So use a decent heat sink and consider a muffin fan to move some air across it. Since these...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

Hi guys... I've been reading this thread for days with great interest. I have been in the process of building a very similar system without ever having heard of BM. It's been good to hear about the various issues you've encountered and I'm anxious to see how my device compares....when...

    Hydrometer vs Refractometer

Oops.... I've been out of pocket lately and didn't see this response. I'll probably just hang on to it, why I'm not sure. I definitely would not buy one again however. Sorry about the tease....:o

Dark Mild Mild Mannered Ale (AG) (E) UK/US

If the boil time is 60 minutes this implies the total time of the boil is 60 minutes. When your pot begins to boil you start the clock with 60 minutes to go. As the clock counts down this figure drops. After 5 minutes of boil you are at 55 minutes of remaining boil time. After 15 minutes...

    Hydrometer vs Refractometer

Wow... Great discussion guys. My particular Refrac provides both Brix and SG scales. It's also thermally compensated supposedly. It's a well made device and it's difficult to understand how it could be defective... However, it just doesn't cut it for my interests. For Sale... cheap...

    Hydrometer vs Refractometer

I just received a new refractometer which I calibrated in distilled water with my old standby hydro. I also cal'd a second hydro a friend gave me and was surprised to see it was six points higher than my old one. I mixed up some sugar water and adjusted it's temp to 60*F. I started with...

    Degassing Bottled Wine

Reprocessing in bulk or vacuuming each bottle as others have suggested is probably your best options. However, there's risk with both of these procedures as you well know, plus the labor involved. Since the wine sounds as though it's slightly fizzy, have you experimented with one of those...

Secondary Fermentation - To Rack or Not to Rack

I've started sitting in the primary for the full schedule and had your concerns initially. What I do is make extra brew and stop the siphon before it starts to pull in trub. Wasting a half of gallon makes a big difference in keeping things pure and the cost or effort to make an additional 1/2...

Beer Tools Pro vs. Beer Alchemy

Thanks Bobby. You're the Man! Your videos made a big difference in me trying BTP initially. After some time on the system it does appear to satisfy my interest more than the others.
