Size and length of immersion chiller and HERMS coil

I have a HERMS setup and have a 50' 1/2" SS coil. I wouldn't even consider going smaller. Remember you're pushing wort (not water) through the coil with a pump which has less pressure than a faucet. The small particles that get pumped around the system affects the flow. Go big!

    Homemade PBW Recipe

I was able to source a 1 lb bag of TSP/90 from Amazon with my son's Prime membership. I mixed up 7 oz of Oxi Clean Free with 3 oz of TSP/90. I used 5 oz for each of my carboys. I was very pleased with the results. It took off almost all the ring without brushing. I needed to do some minor...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

Red Devil TSP/90 seems hard to find locally. I guess I could order it from amazon, but I need it for this weekend. Can regular TSP be used instead? Is it as effective? Safe?

    Homemade PBW Recipe

So, you're saying I should eliminate the Seventh Generation Auto Dishwasher Detergent? I should just use the Oxi Clean Free and Red Devil TSP/90 in the proportions I gave?

    Homemade PBW Recipe

Okay, I'm ready to try this. So, if I understand this correctly, I need the following: 6 lbs Oxi Clean Free (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Oxi-Clean-Free-Versatile-Stain-Remover-65-Loads-3-0-LB/19406202) 4 lbs Red Devil TSP/90...

    MM-2Pro vs MillMaster mills

Sweet! Very nice! Did you add a reversing switch or isn't it needed?

    MM-2Pro vs MillMaster mills

Why would I need more power to drive a mill with both rollers gear driven? It seems to me the power would be the same. So, I'm guessing the MM-2Pro with its 2" rollers won't have the BC issues? That's what I'm thinking.

    MM-2Pro vs MillMaster mills

I'm really getting tired of my Barley Crushers not pulling the grain through the rollers. It's time for an upgrade. So, I was just about ready to pull the trigger on the MM-2Pro when I came across the MillMaster. This seems to be one of the few mills that have both rollers driven by gears...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Here's my newly finished dual stir plate. Some details. Fans are 120 mm 12V for PC. I used 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood for the sides and 1/4" Plexiglass for the top. For the magnets, I used K&J Magnetics discs that are 1/2" x 1/8" thick, N42. They were Superglued to the fans. I used the...

Cooler temp loss 8-12F per hour normal?

I had similar issues with heat loss in my cooler. That's why I switched to mashing and sparging in big SS pots. You can add heat when needed. Now, I have a HERMS system and can maintain any temperature I want to within 1 degree. Plus, you can do a step mash.

Brew day from hell, what are my chances of drinkable beer?

I tried to do one of my first AG brews on my kitchen electric stove. It wasn't successful either. I could barely fit the pot on my stove bridging across two elements. It kind of worked since I just had enough heat to keep it going, but it scorched my cooktop. SWMBO wasn't happy. I went to HD...

    Neighbors All Drink Bud Light

Absolutely agree! Kolsch is easily mistaken for a lite pilsner by most people. Keep the hops on the low side of the scale to really mimic a lite beer.

Accidentally cold crashed after only 4 days

Tastes great. No harm. No foul! I guess I didn't stir that vigorously as I thought.

Help me design my next stir plate

My fan is rated at 12V, 0.68A. I bought this power supply https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CFJH2U4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since it has multiple output voltages and is rated at 30W. So, at 6V, it can put out 5A. Obviously, I didn't need that much, but I wasn't sure and I...

Well, I just received my "uniquegoods 6V 12V 24V Digital Display LED DC Motor Speed Controller PWM Stepless Speed Control Switch HHO Driver - Black CCM5D" from Amazon and I am very pleased with the results. I've read that the stir plate is a little sensitive keeping the bar moving and not...

Accidentally cold crashed after only 4 days

My IPA got down to FG=1.011 from SG=1.061, great attenuation. My Hefe started at SG=1.045 and ended at FG=1.009. So, I cold crashed this earlier in the week and I'll be kegging these bad boys today. So, I'll be able to report on the taste shortly.

Accidentally cold crashed after only 4 days

Good news. Both carboys are showing active fermentation. Time will tell if the stirring had any affect.
