Help me design my next stir plate

No wiring diagram, but it's pretty simple and straightforward. Of course, I'm an electrical engineer which doesn't hurt.

Taking the Refractometer Plunge--Help Me Select One

I decided to take the refractometer plunge so I can better monitor mash gravity, end of sparge gravity, pre-boil gravity, etc. I did some looking around the Internet and came up with these 3 possible contenders: Ade Advanced Optics (4.4 stars)...

Food Grade Storage Thread Revisited Again!

SCORED! I just picked up two of the food safe buckets and lids. Thanks! I thought I looked at HD a few months back and they didn't stock them locally, but there they were!

    Koslch Mash Temp Mistake

True, but all the kits show temps in the 148F to 150F to get a crisper, drier beer. I guess I'll just RDWHAHB!

    Koslch Mash Temp Mistake

Just when I thought I had my HERMS system down solid, I made a mistake. I was planning on mashing my Koslch at 150F for 90 minutes. I set my temperature to 158F knowing I get about an 8F drop. So, I add my grist and got to 150F on the button. BUT...I forgot to lower the temp immediately. The...

Food Grade Storage Thread Revisited Again!

Do the lids mate with the buckets? Different stores?

Food Grade Storage Thread Revisited Again!

I've looked and reviewed a lot of threads here regarding storing malt and grain for long term storage. There seems to be no definitive solution. I've looked at Lowe's for a solution. Of course, the food safe buckets aren't available locally, but the lids are. I may still go this route since...

    love2brew.com

Yes, Love2Brew is really good. I've gone at least 5-6 times recently. They always have everything I need, have very good prices, and fresh ingredients. Their mail order side of things keep them extremely competitive. They are my "go to" store for most everything. I used to use Northern Brewer...

Clean/check those CO2 lines and manifolds!

That's what I thought. I'm fairly certain they were SUPPOSED to be check valve when I bought them from kegconnection.com. Oh well!

Clean/check those CO2 lines and manifolds!

All, In another thread, I mentioned I was changing out my CO2 lines and manifolds for all new ones since it's been about 5 years since installation. I had two 2-way manifolds bolted together to feed my 4 kegs. I wanted to replace it with a proper 4-way manifold and use one of the 2-way...

Two topics: new CO2 tank regs and need to clean new manifold

I think it's made in the USA. The markings are: DOT-3AL 1800 CC408582 M5659 08A17 M 10#CO2 T 13.6LB TC-3ALM124 T6.17kg No indications of place of manufacture. I believe the 08A17 is the date code (August 2017). I think the 1800 means 1800 PSI, correct? No BAR markings. I talked to...

Two topics: new CO2 tank regs and need to clean new manifold

I ordered a new CO2 tank and regulator to add more capacity. Also, I decided to replace my old CO2 lines and manifold with new ones to keep everything clean and fresh. They're about 5 years old. 1. So, I ordered a new 10 lb aluminum tank online. When it arrived, it came with a sheet stating I...

    HERMS Temperature - Too Hot?

Yeah, I think that will cause problems. I keep my pump running the entire mash process and use a temperature probe and controller to keep the mash temperature constant. I usually need to set my kettle with the heat exchanger in it (SS coil) about 1-2F above the mash temperature.

    DIY Malt Crusher Build

Yep, my BC is shot. The knurling is wearing smooth probably used it for less than 1000 lbs. So, I bought the MM2-Pro with hardened steel rollers that are supposed to last more than 200,000 lbs!

Looking to buy new kegs. Choices. Choices.

I like the two handled ones and $75 is close to what used kegs are selling for. I measured my current used kegs and they are 25" X 8-1/2" which is the same size as AIH ones. So, I think it's a "go" for the AIH kegs as long as all parts are interchangeable with my standard used kegs.

Looking to buy new kegs. Choices. Choices.

So, I guess it comes down to the AIH keg or the Torpedo from morebeer.com. I can rule out the AIH (Italy) ones since they don't seem to offer anything more. Looking at the dimensions of these the AIH keg is 25" X 8-1/2". Is that the standard size for ball lock kegs? I can't recall. The...

My New Monster Mill MM2-Pro/AAW Motor Project is Complete

If I recall correctly, the height of the riser is 2-3/8". I decided it would be difficult to drill a 1/4" hole through this much material accurately, so I decided to just use my dado head on my tablesaw to cut grooves for the long bolts (3-1/2" if I recall). The inside of the riser shows the...

Looking to buy new kegs. Choices. Choices.

Hi all, I'm looking to buy a couple of kegs to supplement my brewing. I've bought used kegs in the past and had no issues with them. However, it seems that the supply of used kegs is drying up while the quality has gone down. So, I want some opinions of the 2 major suppliers of these new kegs...

My New Monster Mill MM2-Pro/AAW Motor Project is Complete

Yep, that was the idea--to keep the dust down by putting the collection bucket in a cabinet. I'm still trying to determine if the bucket needs to be brought up to the bottom of the cabinet to really keep the dust down. So, far it doesn't seem too bad.
