    Wort Aeration & Yeast

I've brewed 2 beers & used dry yeast both times. First beer got Nottingham & the 2nd got Safale S-05 Have not rehydrated the yeast either time, but plan on trying it on my next beer.

    Wort Aeration & Yeast

When aerating your wort, do you pitch your yeast before or after aeration? Does it matter? I've seen recipes that call for doing it both ways and didn't know if there was a preference or a convincing argument to doing it either way.

    IPA Fermentation

I've got an IPA fermenting away as we speak. It's about the same time as yours as well. I brewed mine last Friday. I plan on leaving mine in primary to see how it turns out. Tranfering to secondary seems to be a topic that is purely matter of opinion. I don't plan on dry hopping for...

    Storage of Grains & Hops

What's the best way to store any leftover grains or hops from a brew day? How long will they stay "fresh" for? My LHBS is the local liquor store & they don't carry a great amount of grains and what they do keep is 1 pound bags of non crushed steeping grains. Nearest true LHBS is 1 1/2 hours...

    Fermentation Temp Question

So for the ambient temp control, (i.e. party tub, fridge, etc.) how long would you keep these lower temps for? Party tub is my best option at the moment. So would I keep lower temp until bubbling stopped & then let unassisted ambient temp take over for the rest of fermintation or keep it...

    Fermentation Temp Question

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm on my second beer & my ambient temp hasn't been that warm. My first ambient temp was in the 66-68 range. This new beer that's fermenting is sitting in the 64° range. Definitely be keeping this in mind when the weather starts to warm up. Thanks again!

    Fermentation Temp Question

I've read several "Too Cold To Ferment" threads on here & have seen many responses to temps, but there's one thing I haven't quite grasped yet. Ambient room temps for Ales should range from the 60s to low/mid 70s, depending on brand. During the fermentation process the temp inside your...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Just some clarification, please. When you start the sparging process, you are dunking the grains in the sparge water? The "tea bag" is an up & down, or swirling, motion to get the water flowing through the grains? You then let said grain rest in the sparge water for a period of time before...

    New Brew Fever!

I made a checklist that feel very happy with to use for my brew day. That along with Brewer's Friend & my 2nd brew day went extremely smooth. I brewed an IPA this time. Right now it's a matter of calming down & trying not to get too far ahead of myself. Just have to remember to write down my...

    New Brew Fever!

Thanks guys! I couldn't handle it & brewed a second beer 2 days ago. I feel really good about this one because I got to do things I had forgot to do rhe first time around. This new one is definitely getting 3/3 before I crack one open.

    New Brew Fever!

I'm new to brewing & new to posting here, though I've frequented these forums for many months. I've gained many useful tips, but they all seemed to fly out the window when I brewed my first beer. The excitement & uncertainty of what I was doing has lead to a fun learning experience. I...
