    Oatmeal Stout Fermentation Stuck??

FYI - I ended up leaving my Oatmeal Stout on primary for another two weeks before bottling. The final reading came down to 1.014. So, even though there were no visible signs of fermentation something was going on. The taste is definitely different. I think I preferred the sweeter taste at 1.020...

6-Week-Old Crushed Grain: Should I Replace Before I Brew?

Decided to brew a Hefe, batch sparging now. First runnings tasted very good.

6-Week-Old Crushed Grain: Should I Replace Before I Brew?

My list is deceiving because I have 2 bombers of Irish Stout, 6 bottles of Wit, 1 bottle of Blonde and 1 bottle of IPA. Plenty of Red and X-mas. Xmas really needs more time though.

    Yeast going crazy

I use a plastic bucket to ferment in but the process is the same. Remove airlock from top. Clean and sanitize grommet/airlock hole. Insert sanitized tube end into grommet (a 1/4 inch insertion will do). Fill a tall cup with one cup of water, insert other end of tube into water cup. Cup should...

6-Week-Old Crushed Grain: Should I Replace Before I Brew?

I have 7 kits to brew and was looking at tomorrow morning as an option. What to brew first though: Brown Ale, Hefe, or Wit?

6-Week-Old Crushed Grain: Should I Replace Before I Brew?

Can I ask who shipped in the crushed grains in a paper bag? If I end up ordering from them in the future, I would like to ensure that they are shipped in an airtight sealed plastic bag. Thanks. This should not be an opportunity to bask the retailer. Just general knowledge to know.

Do you guys put labels on all your bottles?

Nope. I just enjoy designing the labels. I also Sharpie the cap. Very easy.

    Hello from the Chicago Suburbs

Another Naper-villian here. Wanted to go to that 2-Bros event too but wife says I must be sober for a kids function at 3. Next time I guess.

6-Week-Old Crushed Grain: Should I Replace Before I Brew?

I had a sealed airtight bag for an Irish Red kit from Austin Homebrew sitting in my closet for 6 months before I brewed it. I can tell that was probably past its limits as it tastes a bit stale. It's not awful and it has alcohol in it so I'm usually good. But, it's not the best I've made, not...

How long is too long in primary?

Recently, I bottled an Oatmeal Stout that I had in primary for a month. I didn't like the sample as much as I did after two weeks in primary. I'm sure the final bottled result will be fine but I really liked it a two weeks.

Ah yes, I'm not getting conversion (I think?)

James, I use a similar technique as yourself. My first BiaB AG registered a 55-60% efficiency. I've tweaked my technique as I have progressed and my latest batch, AG#6, was up to 70%. And had I not needed .75 gallons of top off water I think I would have been 75-80. I mash with only 1.3 quarts...

Did anyone else agonize over a brewery name?

I like "LodoVico" with a warrior motif. Maybe start with a silhouette of a Comanche warrior on horseback at sunset. There was someone else on here who recently did a similar western sunset motif. I thought it looked nice.

BIAB - 10 Gallon Batch in a Keggle??

I BiaB for 5.25 gallon batches. No experience with with 10 but it sounds like a lot of grain. Maybe double bag it?

Graphic designers.. I am looking to make a label

FYI - a few people have contacted me in regards to logo and label design. I'd be more than happy to help but I'd like to clarify a few things. First, please be patient. If you need something tomorrow, then please contact someone else. I have a day job, as an art director, and a young family. I...

Graphic designers.. I am looking to make a label

Depends on the situation. Mostly Photoshop and Illustrator, in that order. I'm a designer by trade so I run all the usual software as well as build websites and create flash applications. I actually really want to get into iPhone app design and development. But I'll have to invest about 2k into...

Graphic designers.. I am looking to make a label

jppostKW, I throw together labels and logos when I have some free time just for the challenge. I had about an hour sitting in Starbucks today to put together a rough idea for your label. If you are interested, please shoot me an IM

    Scottish Ale Question

Today while at the local homebrew store looking for WLP028 for a Scottish Ale, a kind gentleman suggested I try boiling down 1 gallon into syrup as discussed in this thread. He said he has done this many times and it will add that extra level of roasted malt taste that isn't there without doing...
