Soapy flavor due to water or trub? How to fix.

Lead is common in garden hoses, especially the cheap, non-rubber ones. I would personally refrain from using them

all grain brew day in under 4.5 hrs!

I find that it's convenient just to lay out all of my equipment the night before and walk into the kitchen in the AM and start brewing.

    Spent grain storage

Whatever you do, do it quickly cuz grains get quite stinky, quite fast. I have had some frozen for a couple months with the intent of using them for bread, but not sure if I'll get around to it or if they stay for that long frozen.

    Caramel Apple

Turned out a little drier than i had hoped, with minimal flavor added from the malt. Back to the drawing board...

    Utopias 2009

For $140 I would grab it. I just picked up 2 bottles of the 2009 for 170 each and I'm in the local area of the brewery. With that said, I'm definitely partial to liking BBC since I am a local, having visited the brewery several times. I have seen just the empty bottles going for $50+ on ebay in...

True! I've tried a few and there isn't much caramel flavor so maybe I'll try your method this season.

    Coupler for heating element?

I'm thinking about a build that could have a SS coupler welded into a keg to screw a heating element into. Anyone seen one of these??

    Caramel Apple

It is getting pretty tasty but I will tell you for sure in October!

    Buying oak barrels in Massachusetts?

Beer-wine does have the barrels, but Modern Brewer does have better prices and knowledge of beer brewing.

    120V element for HLT??

I'd like to build a HERMS, but don't have the option of using 240V. What size heating element would I need to get water in a HLT up to 175 degrees?

    Hops and grain charts

I am looking for a couple of charts, possibly a .pdf format, that lists all the hop and grain varietes and other details about each (i.e. substitutes, flavors, bitterness) to post up in my brewing area. Anybody have links or files that may be of use???

    Caramel Apple

It has decent carbonation. No head, as expected for cider but I intend to age this until this fall so hopefully it will be nicely carbed next time i crack one!

    Breweries and Introduction

What are the chances you could share some of your VB code with us and explain your whole setup on the first rig? I'd love to build something like it.

Quarter Kegs......Any use for them at all?

I used one with a valve installed to do a couple full boils. It does get very close to boiling over and doesn't hold the 7.75 gallons with the top cut. I'm going to use it as a HLT now that I have acquired a 1/2 barrel.

I may have drilled the keggle hole too big

The silicon washers seam like a better route than o-rings. Wonder why I haven't seen more posts on them here???

    Bratwursts and Shillelaghs II

Is that the famous "Bobby Orr flying-through-the-air-after-winning-the-Stanley-Cup" photo hanging up? I have one of those, now I just need a bar to hang it in. Excellent build Dude:mug:
