    What's your favorite sandwich?

Depends on your definition of "sandwich". I've become addicted to shrimp soft tacos. I use 'medium-sized shrimp with 4 shrimps per soft taco. I marinade with 'Slap ya Mama - hot blend' to get some heat, but not hide the flavor of the shrimp. I put them in a non-stick fry pan with a bit of...

Thoughts/input for a newbie getting into the hobby

Realize that you will be doing lots of cleaning and sanitizing - this is the unfun part of homebrewing.

Does anyone have a good way to label their vittles vaults?

I use blue tape and sharpy for everything.

    Diacetyl Rest Too Long?

I'll need to get the third keg transferred, set up some taps, and compare. I couldn't put my finger on what I was tasting different. In some ways, it tasted drier but the FG was fundamentally the same. Almost all batches of beer/ale that I make are developed around three kegs at a time. It...

    Diacetyl Rest Too Long?

I was fermenting an 'American Lager' in three different kegs. At the end of the ferment, I ramped up the temps for a diacetyl rest. I then transferred the first keg to a secondary keg by running through a filter. The FG was 1.010 and it tasted nice. The next day, I transferred the second keg...

Competition optimum maturation timing by style

I have two kegs of Eisbock brewed over two years ago, and ice condensed over a year ago. Each ice condensed slightly differently, so one is a bit harsher than the other and needs to mellow from the higher ABV. The other keg is really nice at this point. No idea if the harsher keg will truly...

    What's your favorite sandwich?

I don't know that this is really a favorite, but it brings back memories of working on my grandparents' farm where you might only have a few seconds to grab something to eat on those super busy days like when you need to get the hay up before the rains come later in the afternoon. I assembled a...

You likely need to prime the pumps. I don't know the recommended way. I would attach the plastic tubes that go on the hose ends, fill with some water and keep blowing it down the line until the pumps gets primed. Just my thoughts.

    fermenting under pressure Questions

I keep it simple. I ferment in kegs. I had my son build a couple of handfuls of pressure relief valves that are roughly 13 psi by using a thinner spring. I picked up a long length of thinner spring material. He determined the proper length and built a bunch. It works fine. Want a different...

does all grain beer taste better than extract? or is it just an experience thing?

Macro brewers are almost all extract. Just think about the headaches Budweiser would have to brew with grain in Los Angeles, as they'd have to then transport all the spent grains out of L.A. I'm not convinced Budweiser is a great beer either.

    What are you drinking now?

I just finished a Schneider Weisse Aventinus. As I was consuming it, it just raised some questions about truly being an Eisbock per BJCP guidelines. Being a Weizenbock/Doppelbock blend along with the clove/banana/etc coming from the ale yeast, it seems more like fitting into the BJCP category...

    Too Much Lagering?

I primarily brew lagers. The only exception these days is 'British Strong Ales'. In general, my impression is that once the lager clears, it is at its peak. The only exceptions are beers like Eisbock which for me start getting optimal after about two years (or longer). My current Eisbock (17%...

My son just found that the same 15A dimmer is available for $80 at: https://www.newark.com/united-automation/qvr-tb-rfi/power-regulator/dp/34M8185 Here is a photo of the "coffee grounds" after my third run of the 'New Clean Beta v6' recipe. Photos for 15A dimmer install below. The one other thing that everyone should do is run the PicoBrew 'New Clean Beta v6' recipe multiple times. I guarantee that that recipe will cover your screen with "coffee grinds" from the wort that has accumulated in the machine's "veins/heart".

I had tried everything except replacing the sensor. I have found a solution that is working for me to alleviate the 'code 6'. I have installed a 15A dimmer into the circuit. I just throttled back the current going to heat the glycol. I am using these two parts (HT02.19.194.00 & HT05.30.042.00)...
