    Is this insensitive?

Dear Abbey, My wife and I applied for jobs in Missouri as she is unhappy with her work in KY. Last week I talked to her about spending a good chunk of money on bulk hops to save money in the long run (we discuss most of our expenditures). She was receptive to the idea, but wanted me to wait...

    My first and funniest gusher

My wife has been impressed with a recent batch of witbier that I made. It has been bottle conditioning for the last 3-4 weeks and is ready to drink. She popped the top on one in our kitchen the other day. I hear her scream and look over to find froth spraying all over the kitchen combined...

Why does Sam Adams IPA taste so much like any Sam Adams beer?

Had their summer lager at applebees last week. I hope that's not what it was supposed to taste like. I'm guessing dirty lines.

Just starting. What other equipment should I get?

+1 on the vinator, chiller, kettle, burner I'm about 8 months in and have these things. My next step is temp control. Add wine thief to the list. it's not much money and a big convenience. Check the thread I posted a few minutes ago for what's most important and when to do it as a...

    Check out this podcast!

I know many of the folks on here are BN army fans or even members. As an analytical person who likes to read, I have spent much of my first year of brewing immersed in books, podcasts, web forums looking for ideas and vicariously living through these sources of information. I cannot brew...

RIP old girl - barley wine in your memory...

We lost a dog last fall when she escaped from our fence and was shot. She made it back to our back porch bfor saying goodbye. I love this idea and look forward to developing a recipe for "tiki's revenge". Thanks for the idea. Sorry for your loss.

    Oak Aged Beers

I'm thinking that i read on the bottle that Arcadia Ales Hopmouth IPA is barrel aged. I cannot confirm that online anywhere, but it is a fabulous beer and I think it is oak aged.

    Brewing with newborns

It doesn't slow down, but if you love to brew, you'll find time for it.

    Brewing with newborns

The first couple weeks are a very magical time (both with your homebrew and your baby!). you will be happy not thinking about other things. That said, i was not much of a brewer when we had our first child. With the second (she is now five months old) i was content not to brew for a while...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Thanks for the recipe guys. I brewed a batch of this recently and am considering entering in a competition. Any ideas on what style this fits? American Amber Ale 10B?

Two AG batches; same off flavor. HELP!

Update: My witbier that I brewed on 5/11 that had an off taste when i sampled it on 5/23 has improved. I took another sample (still in primary) on 6/12 and the off flavor was present in very low amounts. I bottled it last night and I think it will be very drinkable. The first batch that had...

    Anybody ever overflow the bathtub?

Good point...I forgot to mention that I told myself as i walked out of the room that I was getting ready to forget what the hell I was doing. HA. Wife wasn't upset, just gave me the "your a *******" laugh and went on. If we weren't already remodeling things might be different. BTW, as of...

    Anybody ever overflow the bathtub?

So i'm using my tub as a swamp cooler with this batch of ale. The fermometer is reading 68 degrees, but as ambient temps are rising, i decided to drain the tub and add fresh cool water. After shaving and putting on deoderant this morning i got distracted and left the bathroom. i cam back to a...

    Hot Brew Day in KY

Anybody else brew on Saturday? We started brewing a Caramel Amber Ale (This is my redemption brew after two off flavor batches) at 6pm on Sat. night. I figured that the temps would go down in the evening. Damn it was hot. I measured an air temp of 98 in my garage at 8pm during the boil...

Two AG batches; same off flavor. HELP!

Ferm temps were between 65-72 on both batches, with majority of time around 68 degrees.

    Extract to AG to Extract

I don't think you are out of your mind. A couple points. First of all, many of the people on here that can brew in a shorter time are more experienced. Remember, us newb all grainers take a bit longer to do things, in my experience. another point to make is that even folks like John Palmer...
