Bravo & Northern Brewer, what to brew with them?

Great suggestions! Thanks for your input everyone. I think I see a Cali Common and an APA in my future!

Bravo & Northern Brewer, what to brew with them?

I just acquired some Bravo & Northern Brewer hops and was wondering how I should use them? I'm fairly new to brewing and am wondering if these are complimentary to each other or should I use them in separate brews? I lean towards the IPA variety, is there a good recipe someone can point me to...

    Stone IPA Gravity Difference

So I swirled it and heated it up to about 77 and I'm getting some more activity in the airlock now. So I'm going to try and get the FG to around 1.018 or so but why do you think BS had it at 1.029?

    Stone IPA Gravity Difference

Ok, I'll give that a try. So what do you think my FG should be?

    Stone IPA Gravity Difference

So I brewed a Stone IPA clone 10 days ago and have some questions about my gravity readings. I got the recipe from an Article by Stone that had a number of their recipes in it. They stated that the OG should be 1.065 and the FG should be 1.012. I plugged the recipe into BeerSmith and it came up...

    4 step batch sparge?

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like I have some Beer Smith studying to do. I thought it was mostly pretty intuitive and it was very helpful to follow it while brewing. I think I'll stick with the equipment I have for now and just get used to multiple sparges. No big deal.

    4 step batch sparge?

It's my first time using it and I'm still in the trial phase but it didn't seem like there was many options for adding your equipment. I'll look again but I think I saw a drop down that only had like 8 options. I selected what best closely matched my setup which was pretty close. Overall I was...

    Homebrew Saturday

It went great! Thanks for asking. It went quite a bit longer then I anticipated but we had fun. Hit all my gravity levels. It's bubbling away nicely in the fermentor now. I think I'm hooked!

    4 step batch sparge?

So it went pretty good yesterday. With 13lbs of grain my 5 gallon mash ton was maxed out! I only got just over 2 gallons on my first runnings. I had to do 2 sparges to get my full pre-boil volume of 6.8 gallons. Ended up hitting my pre-boil gravity of 1.062. Post boil volume was lower then...

    Yeast Starter, not so much?

It did work. I pitched last night around 10pm and by 7am this morning it was starting to bubble nicely. Now I have to look into harvesting so I can re-use it.

    Homebrew Saturday

Sounds like a great event! I'm brewing a Stone IPA clone today. I have a few friends that are interested in learning so I invited them over to watch the process and throw back a few of my homebrews. Thing is I only have 3 extracts under my belt and this is my first all grain! I've been doing...

    4 step batch sparge?

That helps a lot guys, that's what I'll do. I think I'm good to go with everything else today but this sparging part was the only thing that's been bugging me. Thanks again.

    4 step batch sparge?

Hello, I'm diving into my first all grain today with a Stone IPA clone and was wondering what you guys thought about how Beer Smith wants me to sparge. It says 4 step sparge: drain mash ton, 1.45gal, 1.45gal, 1.45gal at 168 F. So is this 3 small sparges and for how long each? Can I just do 1...

    Yeast Starter, not so much?

Not sure why my pic didn't post. Is there an issue with posting pictures linked from Google Picasa on this forum? It's the direct link... So should I not worry about it and go ahead and use it tomorrow? Thanks again.

    Yeast Starter, not so much?

Here's a picture of it. Looks like I have a good layer on the bottom and the color has changed from a tan to a more golden color. I didn't take a starting gravity reading. Should I be doing that? My gravity right now is 1.016. Good suggestion kh54s10 about measuring by weight instead of...

    Yeast Starter, not so much?

Hello everyone, I've been reading and learning for quite awhile here but this is my first post. I'm pretty new to brewing and only have 3 extracts under my belt but I'm jumping into all grain this weekend. Tomorrow to be exact. So I started a starter on Wednesday night with 1 cup of DME to...
