    2 Micron air stone

Well that's a relief. I guess I did it right then except for walking away from it! Thanks for confirming.

What did you learn this week?

I learned that it's a good idea to have a brew schedule. I only have 6 AG's under my belt and thought I could wing it but man I fumble and stumble all through it yesterday! I wrote a schedule today to use for future brews. At least until I really get the hang of it!

    2 Micron air stone

I used my 2 micron with a 50gal aquarium pump for the first time this weekend and was surprised at what happened. I had good bubbles coming through as you can see in the first picture. I watched it for about 5 minutes and then left it and came back 5 minutes later to find that it had...

    2 Micron air stone

Oops, already suggested. Guess I should have read the previous posts! ;-)

    2 Micron air stone

Did you handle the stone part? There was a warning on mine to not touch it as the oils on our skin would plug it up. Might want to do a search for how to remove the oils and see if that helps.

Universal Mill? Should I get it?

So I found this Universal Mill in the thrift shop today for $3 and was wondering if I should waste my time with it or not? It looks like the Corona's that people use. I tried it out and the crank was smooth. What do you guys think? Thanks for any input.

    2 Micron air stone

I just bought a 2 micron as well and did a similar test with an aquarium pump in a bucket of water. I had a little better results. I'm using a cheap pump for a 10gal aquarium, through a filter then to the stone. I had some bubbles coming out but not much. Was going to step up my pump to a...

    Plate chiller or new immersion?

Thanks for this suggestion. It's exactly what I did. Can't wait to try it on my next batch!

    Plate chiller or new immersion?

Hey welcome Musicguy and thanks for the input. I'm a music guy myself. Play guitar. What do you play? After much thought I actually decided that a counterflow chiller would be the best fit for me. I unravelled my 25' 3/8 IC last weekend and built my CFC. I ran a few tests and I think it's going...

Can you Brew It recipe for Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale

I brewed a 10 gallon batch of this 2 weeks ago and just kegged it with 2oz of dry hops last night. It's my first time dry hopping in the keg so I'm interested to see how it turns out. I have it sitting in my basement with 12psi on it. I'll try it next weekend and report how it tastes. A sample...

Counterflow Wort Chiller Build (and use)

Thanks Tiber_Brew for posting your tutorial. I finally took the plunge and unraveled my IC to make a CFC this weekend. Here's a couple pictures from my build. I Incorporated the thermometer option and also threw a ball valve on my water intake so I can adjust it if I need to. I ran a test with...

Sparge sticks in 5gal MLT but not in 10gal. Any ideas?

I mash in two 5gal round gott coolers but I don't have the tube screen like you have, I use a braid fashioned in a circle and I've never had a stuck sparge. It might be the tall narrow grain bed difference. I use rice hulls to help with drainage because I noticed it was slow when I first started...

    Maximum time in fermenter ?

Be patient. Brewing is a game of patients and timing. Rash, quick decisions equal mediocre beer. Let it finish. Give it a week or two in the fermentor. Bottle it and let it condition for at least 2 weeks and you should be happy with your results. Report back, it will help someone in your shoes...

    Porter Stopped Fermentation

Did you take any hydrometer readings before you transferred? You should do 2 readings 3 days apart and if you get the same reading go ahead and transfer. I typically leave my beers alone for 2 weeks before I even take my first reading. So as Golddiggie has said, finishing will be slow now that...

A experienced eye to look at my brew?

There's most likely good beer underneath that layer of break material. You're seeing the aftermath of the krousen (foam produced from fermentation) settling down.

What did you learn this week?

I learned when direct heating an Erlenmeyer flask on the stove for a starter to not have it too full and watch the heat like a hawk! Bad sticky boilover! Also learned that I didn't allow for enough head space in my carboy for shaking up airation once I pitched. I have a stuck fermentation and...
