    Small CO2 tank

I don't keg, but someone recently mentioned to me about using paintball tanks, which are 20oz or 24oz. Search for "paintball" in the forums and you should get a lot of hits.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Personally, I just pitch a whole vial/pack. From what I've learned from Jamil's shows and from the Starter tab on BrewSmith, the vial is best for about 2.5gal anyway if you don't make a starter. So I figure if I'm doing a 1 gallon batch, I'm just overpitching, which has never given me a problem.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Sugar? Eh? Wouldn't that thin it out even more than it already would be? Jamil's calls for either pale malt and roasted barley with a long boil, or pale malt, crystal (his uses 40L and 120L), Munich, honey malt, and pale chocolate.

    Kegging Without CO2 Tank

I hadn't looked into it, but after a little bit of research this morning, I will now. Only $20 for a 20oz. tank from Amazon, and our local sports store does refills for $4.50. And if I carb with priming sugar, it looks like it'll last forever, but still give force carbing as an option. Thanks...

    Kegging Without CO2 Tank

Thanks, all. I was looking at this route because I'd seen that mini keg article, but looking at other posts here it looked like a lot of people had problems with them and it was recommended that they move up to a regular keg. I was just trying to skip that step and move right up. I've also...

    Kegging Without CO2 Tank

Thanks, oxidation isn't a huge concern for me, as the plan is to finish or nearly finish the keg at group functions shortly after carbonating. So it mostly has to make it for a few weeks before staling. I thought CO2 did make a layer, but I'm likely to be mistaken on several things.

    Kegging Without CO2 Tank

Hi, all! I am considering switching from bottles to kegs, the new MoreBeer Torpedo keg is calling to me. I do small batches (1-2 gallons generally), and do not have money or space for a separate CO2 tank and regulator. My plan is to naturally carbonate with cane sugar, then use a CO2 charger...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Thanks for finding that! And to everyone for the good info. This does sound very exciting, I think I'll be trying it soon!

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I've been wanting to try cask ales, too, but haven't been able to find suitable containers online for sale in the US. Anyone have any pointers and how to cask?

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew? :-) The only real way to know if it's going is to take gravity readings. I never see any airlock activity with meads, including the three I have in gallon jugs now, and I'm also using a beer yeast with them. Just let it sit, it may take a while but the...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I just found this thread, and as I'm reading through I was planning to ask if anyone had a cheap and easy way to cask one of these versus bottling (which I don't want to do every few weeks) or kegging (I have no equipment or space for it). Thanks for this info, I will certainly be checking it out!

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

If you had done the recipe as-is, what style would you say it falls under? I thought it was already a Northern, but maybe it's really a Southern? I just made this a few weeks ago (my first all-grain!) and am thinking of entering it into a local contest and I'd like to classify it properly. I...

    Natural Alternate Yeast Nutrients

Thanks, that's also intriguing (and it got me to register at gotmead.com). I've got 6 empty one gallon jugs; maybe I'll make a couple of batches with Superfood, and a couple with dried fruit, and compare. The only recipe I'd seen so far using dried fruit was JOAM, which I made for my first...

    Natural Alternate Yeast Nutrients

Thanks for the help! fatbloke, that makes sense; I now recall seeing Scott Labs saying they had "Fermaid K" and "Fermaid K (Kosher)." Given the repackaging, it would be hard finding the latter (I haven't been able to do so yet). GF, thanks for the link. It gave me the idea that mead making...

    Natural Alternate Yeast Nutrients

Hello! I'm sure this has been asked to death, and I apologize for asking again, but I didn't see a lot in the search for it and so I wanted to ask. I'm planning to make a couple gallon-sized batches of mead soon (I have a bunch of empty 1 gallon jugs). I keep kosher, and so I wanted to verify...

Looking to make a mash-tun for 2 gallon batches

Just to give a point of view from the other side, I just made my first all-grain batch a few weeks ago, a 2 gallon batch using a 3 gallon cooler and 4 gallon brew pot. I didn't convert the cooler into a mash tun, I put in a nylon bag like you'd use for BIAB, closed the lid, and let it steep for...
