    saison brewing question

I think the higher side has more fruity flavors and the lower range will give you more peppery notes. The saison yeast I used was white labs saison II and after the first 4 days and the beer had really peaked (keeping it around 74) I let the beer get up to 80-84 for most of the day and I got...

    Remove dried krausen from tubing

I had the same problem I soaked the tubing in PBW than blasted it with warm water. It got out the bigger chunks but left some of the smaller debris so I just flipped the tubing around so the krausen side was in my blow off water. I tried putting things in the tube to clean it out but nothing...

How do you use Cocoa Nibs

It's for making an extract. Apparently when you put the extract in the freezer it creates a butter on top from all the fat. http://www.maltosefalcons.com/tech/cacao-nib-extract-drew-way

    lost airlock quick fix?

So i couldn't find my airlock today after I had out my beer in secondary. Is a sandwich bag and an elastic band a good fix, at least for a few days until i can get to the beer store?

    Hop utilization question

Does starting your boil before you reach full volume take away from your hop utilization? I started my boil while doing a first wort hop a little early with only maybe 1.5 gallons. Will this take away from my hop utilization on a boil volume that reached 6.6 gallons?

What are some of your experiences with Oaking beer

I heard soaking the chips in water or microwaving them for a min helps with the intense oak flavor. Does the oak flavor completely go away with time or does it change with time, from the charred barrel to more subtle charred barrel and vanilla?
