    as far as the carboy right now.. it is in a tupperwear of water and there is a towel under that too. Yeah.. I read a while back about the idea of cutting that plastic piece off the bottom of the airlock stem. That didnt seem to do much in this case..

    hmm.. makes sense. Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I will try a starter next time. My brother (who is way more experienced than I) bought an extra yeast and some extra hops last time we went to the store, and he threw them in the freezer. I guess I just assumed that was no problem.
