New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

<off topic> Yep, pretty much follow the CSI recipe, decoct the mash twice, add in the D-180 3 times, and age for a long time. Hardest part is aging it that long AND not drinking it all as fast as you can. Great recipe, fantastic beer! Waiting for it to get out of the 20's to brew, because I...

    DC Group Buy #21

Wow! There has been a flurry of activity and this buy can close anytime. Let me get through the holiday and I will start setting up a time to close the buy and arrange the pickup. I cannot do it before the 20th, so I am trying to get a date confirmed for the 20th or later. Once I know, I will...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

The Zymatic can save you time, so if you love to brew but are short on time, I think it is a great option. Time is money, so in that respect I think it saves me "money". Tonight I brewed...about 30 minutes to setup, push start, then took the son to Kung Fu practice, came home, cooked dinner for...

That does look good. The optional scrubber pad might be a big help as well. Ordered both! Thanks!!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Drop it to 146 or so and it will dry out a bit more. You are getting some alpha amylase at 151 making some sugars that the yeast can't digest. You can also do a two step mash, which is what I generally do because I like a little residual sweetness in an IPA. Cheers!

Where did you get the scrub brush? The one I bought off Amazon is not doing the job for me!

    Golden naked oats smell

Dunno, but I use GNO a lot and never experienced concrete or vomit. Got a beer going now with them and it was fantastic last time I brewed it. I just dump them into the mill with everything else and they seem to do just fine. No additional milling needed. Hopefully your beer comes out fine!

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

OK...look back a few posts and see where I sub honey for sugar to get Cutting Tiles. OdeCloner has a nice Melcher clone here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/trilium-melcher-street-clone.582962/

Looks like my setup except for the cap and drilled holes. That might be my issue. Think I will do that to see if it helps. How many holes did you drill and what size bit?

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

That is what I do as well. I did a CT clone and it was really good. Just don't hurry it like I did and you will be fine! Cheers!!

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Back to back brew days! Rare I get the time to do that these days, but the Z makes it a lot easier to pull off. I find that if I rinse the machine twice and then get some hot water and just recirculate it for 10-15 minutes, that the machine cleans up well. Then an occasional deep cleaning as...

    DC Group Buy #21

For your holiday shopping pleasure, here is where we stand as of a few minutes ago: 22 Full sacks 08 Closed sacks 30 Sacks taken -> goal is 40 22 Open Splits Let's close a few more splits and get a couple of more full sacks and I think we order after the New Year. Need about 10 more sacks to...

Same here. No issues with build up and I would not put vinegar into the machine without consulting the Pico folks.

Get a flashlight. Remove the step filter. Look at the hole inside, top of the Z where the tube that recirculates wort into the step filter sticks out. If there is wort around that hole, you have a problem and need to address it.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Well the parts came in but a little too late for me to brew with over the turkey break. Have had no time to brew lately, but thinking I will get down to business next week. The folks at Picobrew sent me a complete replacement to my stepper arm. Had to completely disassemble the outer shell to...

    Golden naked oats smell

GNO smells great in and out of the mash. I use them in a Surly Abrasive clone I designed and it is one of my favorite homebrews I make. Is it possible that there was actually some vomit near where you were brewing?

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I recommend if you get a VS that you get the one with the attachment hose and put the yeast in a glass jar, vacuum seal that puppy, and store in the freezer. Without O2 and frozen, that yeast will keep for damn near forever! Cheers!
