Replacing a burner with an electric element

Like you I use a single BK with a cooler. I sparge into buckets and then refill the BK. I have an electric system that is as simple as can be, from High Gravity: http://www.highgravitybrew.com/ProductCart/pc/Electric-Kettle-Controller-306p3084.htm And this...

    Fastest Brew Day Ever!

I measured and ground my grains last night, all 19.25lbs of them. (10 gal batch) At 7:00 I fired up the new electric brew kettle and heated my strike water. I used hot filtered tap water, so it only took 15min to reach my strike. Mashed in and let it sit for an hour. Heated my sparge water...

What do you write on your bottle caps?

What's a bottle cap? Now ask me about my tap handles!

    From carboy to corny...

I do it all the time. Cold crash for a couple of days before kegging, and after the first pour, it's clear sailing!

Any of you ever met a hop you didn't like?

During the last great hops shortage I tried some "Argentine Cascade". Worst. Hop. Ever!

    Old Grain?

I pulled out the two year old malt and tasted some. Tastes great! nutty and a bit sweet, not stale at all. I have stored this un-milled malt in this container for the past two years: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13025238 Works pretty well!

    Another...Can I still use this?

I found a couple of 4oz bottles of fermcap -s. Great stuff, but these two bottles have been traveling around the country unrefrigerated for about two years. Still safe to use? Still white, no smells, etc....

    Old Grain?

I'm about ready to start up brewing again after a two year hiatus. I have about 40lbs of 2 row pale malt that has been stored in a airtight dog food container. This malt is now 2 years old! Ok to use, or should I feed the deer?

    Anyone using this system?

Sure! The box also has a muffin fan installed on the side of it as well.

    Anyone using this system?

I'm using a weld-less fitting that uses the washer on the inside of the pot, held in place by the grooved lock-nut. I just can't get the washer compressed enough to get the lock-nut to thread. There is no washer on the outside of the pot.

    Anyone using this system?

OK, I drilled the 1.25 inch hole to mount my heating element, and....... My heavy commercial aluminum pot is too thick! I can't get the retaining nut to compress the silicone washer enough to thread on the element. I call High Gravity and talk to Steve, the owner. Steve tells me that this...

    why use pumps?

I'm with you, Man! Don't need no stinken pumps! I fill my HLT with a hose, no lifting. Drain into my Mashtun, no lifting Sparge into multiple 5 gal buckets, no lifting. Pour the buckets back into the HLT, and presto! it's a boiler! (OK, some lifting here, but I can control it by using...

    Anyone using this system?

You have a good point, Keith. I mash in a cooler and only use single step infusion mashes with a batch sparge, so I'm only looking to use this for heating my strike and sparge water, and then boiling my wort. (I sparge into 5 gal buckets, then pour them into the kettle, no fancy pumps for me!)...

15 year old beer: Safe to drink?

OK , this thread inspired me tonight! I just opened a extract based dopple porter I brewed back in 1996, 14 years ago! If I remember right, this porter was made by doubling up on a couple of canned kits, and adding either some DME or corn sugar. The verdict: Meh.... Very little...

    Is kegging legal in Utah?

Yup, I'm looking at a possible job in Utah. I know I can homebrew, but it looks like they banned all kegs bigger than 2 liters unless you have a permit. Can anyone tell me if this applies to homebrew? Thanks! Joel
