    NHC Results

Just got my final round results. Pilsner got a score of 40. I'm really curious to see where that ranks. One of the sheets said he wanted to give me a 45 but he had to compromise with the other judge and came down a little (at least that is what I think the note is saying).

    Spike etching is off

This is great to hear. Thanks for chiming in. I am going to put an edit on my original post just letting people know QC has been taking action. Edit: Looks like I can't edit my original posts. Might be an issue with HBT not allowing edits after a certain amount of months.

    Spike etching is off

The etchings are put on by the kettle manufacturer (which is a Chinese company). If I were selling custom kettles for $300+, I would want my customers to have accurate etchings. I expect etching to be off on a $50 kettle. Not $300+. I haven't done anything to fix mine. I still love the...

I still haven't received anything. I believe shipping starts June 11th so there is still time but it would be nice to know

Yeah but I sent my beers to Portland which was judged first.

Oh that is interesting. Always thought the beers were tasted, scored and then ranked based on score. I like the blind no score judging. I find you get more real rankings instead of trying to be 100% by the book. Very cool, thanks

I've never entered a competition before. What is a good score to have for a final round beer? Just curious how my 1st round score would do in the final round.

Conflicted on recirculation port location for custom ebiab kettle

Only problem is the lid won't fully close. Not a huge issue but that will let out some heat. Not a huge issue if you recirculate.

I think my plan right now is to "try" to rebrew if I have time. The keg probably has 1/8 left so I will need more for myself anyway. If I can brew, great. If not, I think this batch will still be good. I would like to correct the couple mistakes I made and hopefully make a better beer but I...

This batch was odd. From the keg it didn't turn out exactly like I wanted. Hazy and not as bready as I want. I bottled from the keg. 2 for the entry and 1 extra so I could try it. I cracked it open Saturday and loved it and there wasn't much haze at all. I wonder if there is a small amount...

One of mine got 1st. 1st comp ever entered. Now I just need to make time to brew soon. Needs time to lager. Anyone ever enter beer from the same batch if your second batch didn't come out good?

Conflicted on recirculation port location for custom ebiab kettle

I had mine welded like option 2. I bought this (https://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com/store/Tri-Clover-Straight-Tube-Connect-1.5-x-1.5-x-.5.html) for mashing. I attach tubing to it and use locline. I created a mash cap using a SS pizza pan. The locline is underneath and it rests on top of...

    Keezer has ice in corners

I did have some big openings. I plugged them but I need to do a better job. I'll be building a new collar this summer. I'll do a better job with the holes for my co2 tube and temp probe. I'll fill them with an expanding foam. Looks like I'll be cleaning it out tonight. I did use a flathead...

    Keezer has ice in corners

My keezer has ice build up in the 4 corners at the bottom. I recently put in a fan to suck up the cold air to the top. I did have a few gaps that I need to fill in which I did. I have insulation on the inside of the collar. Could the build up be from the holes that I had to plug? What's the...

    Is Beer Smith worth it?

I've tried to get him to fix this a few times with no luck. What I did was make 3 equipment profiles all exactly the same except for cooling shrinkage. That is what controls volume. 0% for room temp, 2% for mash temp and 4% for boil. I use 0% for starting strike volume. 2% for preboil and...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

Julius and Haze are two of my favorite NEIPAs (Congress and Mettle from Trillium are up there too). Glad Julius is back to how it was. Now I can't wait for the lines to die down when they start increasing their production. Yup, Lincoln RI.

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

I bought cans about a month ago and I was disappointed. Something was off about it. Wasn't a bad beer just wasn't the Julius from the old building. Sounds like they had some issues scaling the recipe but they recently posted (I think on Twitter) they were happy with the way that specific...

    Hydrate or pitch dry?

I always rehydrated but now I direct pitch two packets. Only $3 more, much easier and I get a ton of yeast even with some dying.

    Lagering...

The last lager I brewed was ready in 4 weeks grain to glass with no filtering and it was as clear as day. Fermented and carbed with 5 days and then lagered right after. I don't use a d-rest for my lagers. Use a ton of yeast that produce less diacetyl and won't you need to do one.
