    DUOTIGHT LEAKS......

For those that have leaks, do you use StarSan and let it stay in contact with the fittings? People have mentioned that StarSan is not good for this type of plastic and can cause cracks. If you do use StarSan, I wonder if there are small cracks on the inside that you haven't noticed.

How many yeast packages for high gravity beer?

How many yeast packages for high gravity beer?

Wyeast switched from production date to best by date recently. The rule of thumb that best by is 6 months from production isn't correct. From Wyeast - " This date guarantees our products for a minimum of 6 months." A few months ago I bought some Wyeast online. The best by date was 4/14/21...

    White labs question

I'd say airlocks aren't a good way to tell if it is done fermenting but can used to at least see if it has started. If you don't see bubbles after 6 hours, you most likely underpitched or underaerated.

Bought a chest freezer today, time to build keezer

You determine the height you want based on the set up you want. The minimum height would be the height of your keg with disconnect attached. Additional height would be for extra room for line. I went with 8". I've had a bunch of different temp controllers (ITC unit, Inkbird, Johnson...

8 days from bottling - Is it done fermenting?

Depends on the yeast strain. Can't find too much info on the Mr Beer kit but typically 62-68 is a good range for the beer temp. Since you don't have a reason for temp controller yet (you don't have a fermentation fridge), you can get a cheap temp probe unit that just tells you the temp with no...

8 days from bottling - Is it done fermenting?

Do you know what the yeast was? 73°F room is pretty hot for most ale yeasts. Fermentation is exothermic so the beer can be 10°F hotter than the room. 80°F fermentation temp is really hot

    White labs question

Prior to buying a SS Brewtech Brew Bucket, I used many different plastic buckets for years. Only once did I have a seal issue but that was my fault. They all sealed fine and airlocks always bubbled. Do your lids have gaskets?

8 days from bottling - Is it done fermenting?

If 2 weeks wasn't long enough that means fermentation didn't go well. Usually from not pitching enough healthy yeast and not aerating enough. An ale with the right pitch rate and aeration should finish in 5 days. Without a way to take gravity readings, you don't know when to bottle. If you...

    Glass rinser

I have the same one. There isn't really anything you need to know about the internals. If you look at the pictures on Amazon, there are two barbs. The middle on is water in and the other is water out. Water in needs to be pressurized to about 10 to 15 psi. I have a mini keg in my keezer...

    White labs question

I've never once had an issue with buckets sealing. The lids have gaskets. I don't think this is the issue.

8 days from bottling - Is it done fermenting?

Why did you pick 3 weeks for fermentation? That is a long time. Ales are usually done fermenting before a week, unless you severely underpitched. The only way to know if it is done fermenting is to take a gravity reading.

    Aquarium pump aeration- how long?

IMO, those pumps are good for adding oxygen continuously for starters but not good for full batches. Wyeast recommends 10ppm oxygen but those pumps only provide a max of 8ppm in 5 minutes. If you aren't going with an oxygen setup, just shake it for a minute.

    A simple digital Taplist solution

I got it to work on Firefox. It doesn't look as nice as it does on my PC but it isn't a big deal. The lines breaking up the columns in the header row doesn't line up with the columns breaking up the tap list. I had to adjust the screen position on the TV to get the right and left edges but...

    A simple digital Taplist solution

I downloaded Firefox and was able to open the site/app but the edges are really cut off and I couldn't scroll down in the settings. Not sure if that is because of my TV or the app being used on a Firestick. I should try on my monitor.

PH drops from 5.68 to 5.14 after mash! How could it happen?

No I don't use an iodine test. But by 20 minutes, I know it isn't done.

PH drops from 5.68 to 5.14 after mash! How could it happen?

I measure pH every 10 minutes. I find the mash pH is pretty stable around 20 minutes. After that it may change .02 or .03. I also recirculate so that may help stabilize the mash pH quicker.
