Different yeast. Here is a picture of the previous infection. It does look different, larger white bubbles, the one I have now is a lot of small bubbles

I guess I was asking about beer specifically. Have you ever had a keg of beer spoil. Anyway I’m spinning my wheels here. Thanks for the info! If I find the definitive source I will share. Thanks!

Thanks for the thorough answer above. Your reading is dead on, my last batch had a similar thing going on and I kegged it immediately, tasted great. I was hoping to keep this one in carboys but it has a similar infection. Your comment about funky kegs, I never store warm beer in kegs I...

Savage! I have been brewing for 15 years, I have had two brews go bad and I knew what happened both times. This one has me confused. My main question, is this definitely a infection?

I guess I don't follow what you are saying. I should let it ride and drink 10 gallons of gym socks, and throw away glass carboys that can be sanitized.

I used a new hose this time. I soap water and starsan the carboys same way I have for years, honestly I am thinking about just ordering more kegs and storing beer in those in a chest freezer. It still bothers me though, I will pop the lid on the conical and see if its starting in there, I did...

Hey guys. I had this happen on the last batch as well. I would like to store beer in carboys until I need it but this film keeps popping up. The last batch I kegged immediately when I saw the film and the beer was great. I really don’t want to keg this one now but should I before it gets funky?

I coincidentally just ordered 4 lbs of pellets yesterday and I was blown away with how cheap they were. I usually buy leaf hops but the pellets fit into bags so much easier and are less messy in my opinion. It just seems like they are cheaper than ever.

Using a refractometer, I am confused.

I took a bottle of water out of the fridge this morning so its cold but reading about .5B below 0. I will let it warm up to room temp which is 65 and re check, re calibrate the refractometer for the next brew.

Using a refractometer, I am confused.

Blew the mash on the BB Milkshake IPA, it was the first brew with my new set up. Basically I do (and my terminology is not on the level of you guys) batch mashing in SS brewtech infusion, I have the capability to HERMS but I haven't the coil and plenty of time for that later. So my strike...

Using a refractometer, I am confused.

The honey was added to the BB Milkshake IPA. I am a beekeeper with about 40 hives so I always have plenty laying around and often a mead on tap.

Using a refractometer, I am confused.

Thanks! I guess I should have mentioned that I have been brewing for roughly 15 years, always all grain. I have been using the refractometer almost as long. Hence the original question, I was really thrown off by the attenuation. I have been brewing 10 gallon batches in the garage using...

Using a refractometer, I am confused.

Yep it is ATC and its in the basement beside the fermentor. The english ale yeast was brand new on the prior brew, I used it to make a Blackberry Milkshake IPA. I dumped it into carboys using the racking arm then I dumped the pale ale into the fermentor and added the safale 05. I play it...

I need to get a hydrometer to double check my work and get my wort correction factor, Ill ask how to do that when I pick one up.
