    Mash In A Bucket system

One thing that I did forget to mention is that I can also cook Sous Vide with this system :) A buddy of mine is a chef in Florida and he said that cooking a steak by sous vide is one of the best ways to have steak! I'm looking forward to trying that and having a home brew!

    Mash In A Bucket system

This is what really got me thinking about building a RIMS. I took elements of this design and changed it to fit my needs. http://www.kegkits.com/RimsTube.htm

    Mash In A Bucket system

Not sure how high of an SG I can get but I can put 20lbs of grain in my bucket no problem. With the way I designed it I shouldn't have any problems with a stuck mash at all. I started to build my own heat tube with a water heater element and had all of the materials but I saw the brew heater...

    Mash In A Bucket system

It's a 10 gallon cooler and I brew 5 gallon batches with it. The whole system is only about 17 inches wide. My wife thought it was cool looking and now she wants to help me brew something next week.

    Mash In A Bucket system

I just finished the Chugger pump platform and attached the RIMS tube to the cooler. This is now a super compact system and is very portable. I'm very happy with this setup.

    Mash In A Bucket system

The element runs off a normal 15/20 amp circuit and I never had any issues this past weekend even when running the Chugger pump for the whole 90 minute mash.

    Mash In A Bucket system

I can’t tell you exactly how much $ I have into this system because I’ve changed the design over the past year. If I were to guess, I probably $500-600 wrapped up into it but I’m sure it could be built cheaper. I never really kept any notes or parts list but here is what I could remember off...

    Mash In A Bucket system

Last year I had this idea to a build a compact mash tun with the capability to recirculate and heat like a RIMS system. Well after going back to the drawing board numerous times, this is what I finally came up with. The first thing I did was have a stainless steel filter bucket built to place...

    My One Vessel AG System

Here's a YouTube video of my completed MIAB system. I still have some finishing cosmetic touches to do but the system works great. http://youtu.be/s7Uu6lq_gLs

It's actually a brew heater that fits on the side of a kettle. I bought it from my local brew store. The rest of the stainless piping I got from Amazon. The PID is a sous vide unit I got from ebay. My Hefe came in at 85% efficiency @ 1.055 OG.

Here's a few pictures of my setup. Today I'm doing a Bavarian Hefeweizen with a 4 step mash. The PID will control the heater pipe and all phases of the step mash. So far it works great!

    My One Vessel AG System

Here's a picture for the Reflectix that I bought at Home Depot, I think it was about $12 for 25 ft.

    My One Vessel AG System

I used the plate that Chad made and squeezed. I got a lot more sweet wort when I did that. I let it drip some more and then added that in during the boil.

    My One Vessel AG System

I thought about the temp loss after I had already started so next time I will use the heater manifold pipe to keep the temps steady. After everything was all said and done, it was a pretty successful brew day and I hit 76% efficiency according to iBrewmaster. Since this was the first time that...

    My One Vessel AG System

I did a 90 minute mash and the temp dropped 7 degrees. I had the pump going for the whole 90 minutes so the drop really isn't that bad.

    My One Vessel AG System

So far, so good! It's working like I thought it would. I'm doing a NB Black Ipa that's a single infusion mash so I don't need my heater pipe on this one. My Chugger pump came yesterday and is recirculating the mash, it is very quiet! I need to trim my tubing a little but other than that, it...

    My One Vessel AG System

I'm building a heater pipe out of stainless pipe and a hot water heater element. I will use my PID to control the mash temps. I bought a Chugger SS pump and it should be here by Friday. The brew basket replace the false bottom or a bag in BIAB. Looking forward to next weekend!

    My One Vessel AG System

I won't boil in this. I will transfer to my boil kettle. My PID allows up to 8 temp settings so I can do a step mash.

Here is the stainless BIAB that I came up with and had Chad build, his build quality is excellent by the way. Once my heat exchanger and pump is complete, I will recirculate the wort similar to a RIMS system. Hopefully it works like I think it should.

    My One Vessel AG System

I found Chad on ebay as well and bought a hop spider from him a month ago, his craftsmanship is excellent! I'm in the process of building a RIMS tube like this one http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-your-own-portable-Stainless-Steel-RIMS-tube-/ so hopefully everything works like I think it...
