How Long Before Repitching for Bottling?

So I brewed an Imperial Stout 60 days ago. It's been in the secondary for 41 days as of today. It's been at a constant 66 degrees this entire time. When do I need to start thinking about repitching yeast for bottling? I hope to be able to get to bottling it soon, however starting graduate...

    First Starter

Quick update. The starter worked GREAT. Left it on the stir plate until I was ready to pitch about 20 hours after making the starter. There were signs of fermentation within the next 6 hours and now it's bubbling away and looking great. Thanks for the advice guys!

    First Starter

Thanks guys. I'm using WLP013. My wife did comment that it was looking lighter this morning. So, should I let it keep on spinning, brew my batch today and just pitch it straight from the stirplate then? Thanks guys, once again I worried when perhaps I shouldn't have. I'm going to go look for...

    First Starter

Well I'm getting concerned. It's been going since 7pm (15hours) just spinning away. I was hoping I would wake up to some krausen(sp?) or something! Is this cause for concern or does the spinning keep krausen from accumulating?

    First Starter

Sorry for the shaky cam, but how are we looking? Normal? Too fast? Too slow? YouTube - First yeast starter It was like anything with brewing, had plenty of hiccups and unexpected boil overs, but next time it should be 100% smoother. Also, i just squeezed the foil around the top, do i need to...

    1. Well I have the flask so i was going to boil in there. I think i'll just use my trusty starsan and not even worry about this one (though it sure would be easy if i could boil it) 2. Great idea! Thanks! (EDIT: Totally forgot about my stir plate! Just gonna have to pull the a/c down for the...

    First Starter

So I'm making my first starter. I have a 2l flask and a homemade stirplate that i just finished up. Seems to stir just fine at low speed but at higher speed something it flings the stir bar to the side. I guess it's not the MOST balanced piece of workmanship ever. But it makes a nice, maybe 1...

I am a Homebrewer [video] Release

Never listened to the Sunday Session before. Before I brew a new style I will listen to the Jamil Show and listen to his thoughts on the style. I actually do enjoy that show. I've listened to a few episodes of Brew Strong.

    I couldn't help myself

Looks great, especially the color! So far I haven't loved any commercial fruit beers I've tried. But one of these days I'm going to brew one for SWMBO. Go Bolts!

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

Oh very cool. I'm going to be ordering some ingredients and some other odds and ends from AHS soon. So I was considering just getting their yeast starter kit. Seems like I should get the 2L flask? Thanks for the feedback!

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

Thanks for the build notes. I soldered mine up yesterday. Spins the fan great! I used a 9v power supply I found for an old piece of hardware and a 120mm case fan I had wasting space. But I have yet to glue my washer on. Namely because I haven't gotten my flask or stir bar yet so I'll just wait...

    Blow Off Valve Size

I'm looking to make a Imperial Stout next week. I have a 6.5 gallon glass carboy. Do I need to use a stopper? Or can I get some 1'' tubing and shove that in? What's best practice here, never used a blowoff. Here is my carboy...pretty standard, but maybe the picture helps? Thanks in...

    Drilling/Placing Ball Valve on Kettle

I've read the threads I could find on this subject, but still came out with a couple questions. I have a 15 gallon SS pot that I got from AHS: Austin Homebrew Supply I bought it in preparation for going all grain, but have been doing partials in it so far. So, I've been able to lift and pour...

Going AG: Mash Tun Cooler Questions

I will indeed. Got a new iPhone, so i really have no excuse for not taking pictures. My next batch is going to be another PM, but I'm adding a yeast starter and making a stir plate as well as making my immersion chiller. Last batch I added in temp control to fermentation. Then I expect the...
