    Green tastings

Yeah, there is really not too much to the dogfish clone. It's a pretty simple brew. Hardest part is the continuous hopping on the boil

    Green tastings

Just finished this past Sunday brewing dogfish head 90 minute clone. Ended up with 6 gallons, instead of 5 1/2. I must have over estimated the amount Of water I would need slightly. Today I thought I would take a gravity reading, even though it's early, and given a little bit of a taste since...

    New to Yeast Starters

Ok thank you all. One more follow up question though, as I've been researching this and using Mr. Malty and getting conflicting answers (or am just so confused I think I am!). Can I just do this starter from one pack of Wyeast instead of two (doing the two or three steps, cold crashing night...

    New to Yeast Starters

I see, so rather than do 2 starters (one for each pack) just do it in succession. That works. Thank you for the assistance. No stir plate, so I guess I'll just need to shake flask often

    New to Yeast Starters

It seems to me Mr malty is telling me to use 3.86 liters in my starter flask with 2 packs. My flask is only 2000 ml which is a half gallon. Yikes! Should I do two seperate starters and combine them? What would others do? Seems like a large amount of liquid to me.

    OG and FG?

    What about autolysis?

    New to Yeast Starters

Ive got the mr malty app, but I'm still having trouble figuring it out. I'm brewing a high gravity beer, so need a healthy pitch. Let me be specific, I am getting in the calc that I need 314 billion yeast cells. With a starter, it appears to get that number I would need 2 packs in 3.58...

    Clone of dogfish head ale

Ok so I am getting ready to brew a high gravity beer. Target is around 1.088 OG. I've got a new smack pack of Wyeast, and understand I need to do a starter. Never have done one. Using Mr. Malty app, it tells me I need two packs in 3.79 quarts for a simple starter. So, does this mean I buy...

Wonderful! I will take your advice. Can I ask what the OG and ABV were?

    Clone of dogfish head ale

I like your idea of sparging with 170 degree water, and skipping the 170 mashout. I will do that. Yours is figured for temp drop after first rest (good idea) and so I am coming to 8.075 gallons in the tun before sparging. To hit my target volume i would then be batch sparging with 2.05...

    Yeast starter

I've got the mr malty app, but I'm still having trouble figuring it out. Let me be specific, I am getting in the calc that I need 314 billion yeast cells. With a starter, it appears to get that number I would need 2 packs in 3.58 liters. I am assuming this would be 2 packs of 100 billion...

    Yeast starter

I am using Whitbread Ale - 1099 in a higher gravity brew i am going to do in the near future. 90-Minute IPA clone (Dogfish Head) (5 gallons/19 L, all-grain) OG = 1.088 FG = 1.021 IBU = 90 SRM = 13 ABV = 8.7% It was pointed out earlier to me to make sure I pitch enough yeast for that...

    Clone of dogfish head ale

    Thanks everyone! Yep, here's the recipe I'm working from: 90-Minute IPA clone (Dogfish Head) (5 gallons/19 L, all-grain) OG = 1.088 FG = 1.021 IBU = 90 SRM = 13 ABV = 8.7% Ingredients 16.5 lbs. (7.5 kg) Pilsner malt 1.66 lbs. (0.75 kg) amber malt (35 °L) 16 AAU Amarillo hops...

    Clone of dogfish head ale

Wait I see where I am going wrong, greatly underestimating my water loss: With this much grain I'll loose about 2.5 gallons (some is just a dead spot in the cooler, rest is in the grain). So there's 2.5 gal gone before sparge and on a 105 minute boil with my kettle I'll actually lose about 2.25...
