    Auto Siphon Nightmare

So I got it to work with regular soap and water, go figure. I had to extend first, then submurge, then pump once. I was doing it in the wrong order Please tell me I'm not the only home brewer that is completely absent-minded sometimes!!

    Auto Siphon Nightmare

My set up, 3/8" https://image.ibb.co/niXfG8/MVIMG_20180726_235520.jpg When I pump. Hose too short? It lifts out of the bucket. Should I have so much hose that it curls around like a snake in the bottom? Stupid curly hose makes it so I can't siphon softly against the wall of the bottling...

    Auto Siphon Nightmare

Tell me if I'm simply retarded for not getting one of these things to work. It's my first time "racking to a bottling bucket" so I can not pick up as much yeast sediment. I normally bottle straight from the fermenter but I've not liked the yeast cake in my beers. So I was suggested this. I...

    Five infected batches

Could the problem be that I am pitching the adjuncts at the same time as the yeast? Maybe I just got lucky in the past.

    Five infected batches

Okay, there have been some questions, let me clear them up a bit. "Scrubbing" was actually just a slang term for letting the cleanser soak a long time. I never use brushes of any kind, I simply soak and wipe down. The off-flavors (minus the last one, watch and wait) are definitely infection...

    Five infected batches

Good questions. So here's the answers : I am fermenting in my kitchen and it is like the rest of our house, relatively mild with not much dampness. My big problem with this, is that I have used C Brite (I will be graduating to a new sanitizer soon once this big batch runs out) from the...

    Five infected batches

I can't for the life of me figure this out. 3 of them were stouts, 1 of them was an IPA, and one of them I'm not sure is infected, but it's a little snappier than I'd like (PB&J beer). I recently picked up some green Menards buckets (HDPE 2, food safe), brand new never used ...

Where did all the Comet hops go?

Rep'd. That's actually a good price. I'll probably grab some Citra (also part of that recipe) there too. Thank you and cheers!

Where did all the Comet hops go?

I have a recipe that is arguably my best work and the featured hop is Comet. I'm having lots of trouble finding it in Homebrew stores and my main online location hasn't had them in stock for 6 months. I'm sure they're available somewhere but I don't feel like paying $5 for 2 oz and another $7...

    Getting sludge at bottling time

Just wondering how to combat this. I bottle from my fermenter and there's always a bunch of yeast sludge coming out. Do I need to run off the beer into a bucket until it's somewhat clean? I don't rack to secondary. How do the big breweries do it? Do they run a line from their fermenters to a...

    Sugar Free Grape Juice Concentrate

Thinking about making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich ale. I figured I could either use LorAnn Super Strength Grape Extract or just go to the store and buy some sugar free concentrate to throw in secondary. Any thoughts? Thanks !

    Mash kettle that automates temperature

Just curious if there's such a device out there. Where if it gets above say, 160 degrees, it lessens the heat, and if it gets below, it raises it. I understand this may be expensive, it's something I'm willing to venture into. Preferably electric. Thanks!

Yeast in the mail - am I screwed?

    Thanks everyone! :)

Yeast in the mail - am I screwed?

Apparently my 10 packets of Saffale US05 arrived in my mailbox yesterday. We have been out of town and will arrive back tonight. It was 85 and storming yesterday and today it's 90. Are my yeasties dead?

All of my stouts are bottle bombs

I'm assuming it's incomplete fermentation. Because My latest couple batches of IPA's was primed with 1.85g of sugar and all of them were bottle gushers. One of them stopped (steady for 1 week) at 1.016, the other stopped at 1.020. I think I'll have to pitch more yeast if it just stops there. Or...

All of my stouts are bottle bombs

Can't figure this out. I can use the same volume of sugar (2 grams) for an IPA and it turns out just fine. I use 2 grams for any kind of stout (usually aged and brewed with cacao nibs and coffee) and I get fountains and the occasional glass grenade. I typically bottle between 1.020 and 1.010...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Decided to take on a venture of doing ultra small batch brews, we are talking 1.5 gallon yields. This is to get me acquainted with how each variety of hop reacts with each malt. It's an incredibly fast process - boil time is cut in half, and my ingredients usage is almost nothing. Today's...

About to go buy 50 + pounds of Base malt... What should I get?

I ended up going with Great Western NW Pale Ale High Color. We will see how it turns out. I spent $100 on grain and bottle caps but I got every thinkable style covered for the next year or so. Cara everything, wheat, pils, munich, flaked barley and rice, belgo aromatic, gamb honey, etc etc...

About to go buy 50 + pounds of Base malt... What should I get?

How about Great Western Pale High Color vs Rahr Pale Ale? 50lbs vs 55 lbs, $2 difference

About to go buy 50 + pounds of Base malt... What should I get?

The Homebrew store that I go to that actually has decent pricing is pretty far out of the way for me, and although I use online shopping from time to time I figured it would just be best to get all my pale malt knocked out in one shot. I brew a lot of New England style IPAs, a few Stouts, and...
