Brown Ale scaled from local brew pub

Got the recipe for one of my favorite beers from the brew master of a local brew pub. I scaled his recipe down from 14 bbls to this. My LHBS does not carry Pauls, nor the crystals shown. If I substitute the same quantities of 60 for the 65, 80 for 90 and 120 for 140, the color doesn't...

Anyone Brew Jamil's Lagunitas IPA clone?

I'm going to brew this weekend. I love this IPA, but I want to up the IBU and flavor and aroma a bit. I have Magnum and Pearle in the freezer, so that is why I included those. I don't have any experience with Summit, but I increased that for bitterness and moved to 45 min for some flavor...

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone

I agree that more hops make this better. My recipe is at 40 ibu and tastes better than the original.

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone

With all those hops, it looks more like a "Torpedo Light" than a PA. Looks tasty though.

Asked Sierra Nevada Brewing about Torpedo Extra IPA Recipe. Here it is!

BeerSmith calls for 2 pkgs US-05. Would under pitching be better, or could I have something setup wrong in BeerSmith ?

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone

My clone brew side by side with SN version. Color is way dark, but the cloudiness may be making it appear worse. The taste is fantastic. Very close to the original, mine maybe a bit fresher and more hop flavor. Next time I'm going to cut back the C60 to 1 lb, increase the 2-row to 7 lbs...

Check out this thread from The Brewing Network. I've been looking to follow his lead.

Converting EdWort's Hefe to Partial mash

I plan to brew this as a Partial mash. BIAB. Can someone take a look and let me know if this is ok or not ? The 8 lb grains is kind of pushing my limits, but I wanted to keep the extract to a minimum. I may go ahead and use 2 lb DME and cut down on the grains to offset my low efficiency, of...

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone

I just brewed a SNPA clone. After 9 days in primary, the Color, Aroma and Flavor of the sample look great. I purposely upped the hops a bit, as I think the SN version could use it. Fermenter ranged at 66-69. No airlock activity since day 4 or 5. I'm thinking of bottling this at 14 days. Here...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

I plan to brew this as a Partial mash. BIAB. I modified the recipie as follows. Can someone take a look and let me know if this is ok or not ? The 8 lb grains is kind of pushing my limits, but I wanted to keep the extract to a minimum. Partial Mash Wyeast 3068 Batch size 5.0 gal Pre-boil...

Help me pick what equipment to buy next

I'm in a similar spot as the OP, except I have 3 brews under my belt. Thanks to all of the great advice here on HBT, but none better than, “be Patient and Enjoy” For now, I'm going to work with what I have. I can do partial mash's and half AG batches in my 20 qrt pot and make beer that...

    My first Partial Mash

.....and boil for 60 min, rather than 90?
  16. VonAle

    My first Partial Mash

I read over at BIAB, that they mash for 90 min, boil for 90 min, rest for 10 min. then cool. That is radically different than most brewing instructions I've read. Mash-60, Boil-60, then immediately cool.

    My first Partial Mash

I spent 6 hours last weekend. Would love to get it down to 3.5 hours. Easily, I spent 1 to 2 hours waiting and screwing around getting my temperatures.

    My first Partial Mash

Except for ending up with half as much beer for the same work, I like it. Double crush because it's a small volume ?

    My first Partial Mash

So I end up with a 2.5 gal batch. Does that work ok in a 5 gal fermenter?

    My first Partial Mash

With all due respect OClair and Yooper, Thanks for your encouragement. I do have a cooler that I can use to make a MLT. But I think I would need a bigger boil pot and suitable heat source first. Am I correct to say that I am limited to Partial mashes in my 20 qrt boil pot ? I can't mash 12...
