In some ways yes. I used them both side by side for a while, and then settled on Bs. Most versitle IMO.

    putting together recipes?

I used brewers friend and hopville for a while and learned alot. Now I have beersmith dialed in and love it. I think it takes several brews of recipes that either you build yourself or follow, to get your equipment and process defined. I still have to start from other recipes, and then make...

Is there a benefit to smack it, and utilize the nutrient ?

    Saison critique

The Special B is there for color. The recipe started with Munich, (before I added the Oats and Spec B). I left it in there for that reason only. I honestly can't tell you why It should stay in there or not. I guess it contributes sweet / malt flavor and color. I can loose the munich, but...

    Saison critique

Wyeast 3724 - temp range = 70-95 I think I'll mod the grains a bit like this: 58% 2 Pilsner 9% Wheat Malt 9% Rye Malt 9% Flaked Oats 5% Munich Malt 1% Special B 9% Table Sugar ( to be added to fermenter at day 2 or 3 )

    Saison critique

No club affiliation yet. Thought the rye might be to much, along with the long mash. I have not seen oats in a saison yet. That is a good thought.

If you had to HATE one thing about Homebrewing...

Waiting.....for the next brew day. The 4-5 days leading up to brew day are agonizingly long. Once I get to Flame-On, it's all good.

Need suggestions for next brew. Trying to try something different

Former BMC guy here. I hated..hated..hated Pales, IPA's, brown, stouts. But when I got into brewing, I realized I wasn't going to be making Coors lite, so I spent more time at the brew pubs and sampled the different beers there, went to Total wines and purchased single bottles of different...

IPA recipe - hop schedule change

Thanks for the advice. I am not looking to change much. The batch I'm drinking now is very well received in my house. I think going forward, I want to try the FWH and see what that does. I only want a "touch" more bitter and flavor, without turning this into a hop bomb. As it is now, it's...

That is what I understand as well. I have not done enough brews yet to know first hand these sort of things.

IPA recipe - hop schedule change

I am only looking for a subtle change. I thought the Willamette FW would give me a bit more bitterness and flavor. I also upped the late additions by .5 oz. and moved from 20 and 0 to 15 10 5 0 Do you feel the Summit at 45 min has no flavor benefit ? That could be replaced with more Magnum...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

My brew came out great, but the color has since faded to a grayish yellow. Still taste good, but not like it did 2-3 weeks ago. Is this normal for Hefe's after 7 weeks in the bottle?

    Hefe Shelf Life

Old thread, I know. I bottled a Hefe 6 weeks ago. At 2 -3 weeks they were great. Bottles were stored rather warm at 80 degrees, and the beers are going down hill fast. Color has faded to grayish light cream. Was a nice yellow. Flavor is less clove and more Banana, which is ok. I've...

Can You Brew It recipe for Lagunitas IPA

Brewed this 6 weeks ago. I used US-05. 1 week @ 66, then 2 weeks @70. Dry hopped for 7 days in primary, then bottled. OG 1.057 FG 1.011 It is delicious. I don't know how this compares to the original. I plan to find out this weekend. The beer is actually more clear than it looks in the photo.

A General home brewing discussion for beginner

For me... HBT and Google are your friends. I've spent dozens if not hundreds of hours reading and learning. Before I started, I read the kit instructions dozens of times, and brewed this kit in my head over and over. The props and walk through at the LHBS helped, but it was still only CLEAR...
