This is going to be terrible right?

hmm i dunno, i dont do 'brown ales'... have you got anymore EKG? how bout some fuggles? even saaz are kind of spicy and interesting as a dryhop.. amarillo or cascade would add lots of flavor but might be a little 'off' for a brown ale... prob just an ounce of whatever you got for at...

IPA into Saison? say it aint so

or just add the extract before the pot starts to boil.. you carmelized your wort. you added the extract while the boil was going and it was too hot and it burned the sugars in the extract... add the extract right away, while the pot is cool, as you are waiting for the pot to boil, then...

American Barleywine Her Majesty's Pleasure Fusion Barleywine (awards)

What I meant to ask was why did you include sugar in the first place? I see many of the other Barleywine recipes have 1#. Is it normal for the style? Did you want more ABV? Did you initially think it would help the yeast work harder? Did you want it a little drier, even after the 149 deg 75...

American Barleywine Her Majesty's Pleasure Fusion Barleywine (awards)

Hi Bobby Doing my first barleywine this weekend. In your recipe description, you say it'd be nicer if it was a little less abv. If you were going to do it again, would you omit the surcose, or does that need to be there to help the yeast attenuate? I've got 29# in mine right now, going to...

IPA into Saison? say it aint so

Dude we are curious about the exact recipe. How many pounds of extract? Was it liquid or dry? Which grains did you steep? What kinds of hops? How many oz of each kind of hops? At what times did the diff types of hops go into the boil? Also if you have the ability next time, boil all the...

    How does this stout look?

yes i think you would be alright with 60 min. maybe 65 or 75 if you really like the dry. I do my milk stout at 75 min but thats at 156deg... wait a day or two and see what some the more experienced members say, but I'd say that 60 min at 150 is good enuff, especially with the Irish Yeast.

    How does this stout look?

you dont have to toast the oats. althought it would prob be a nice flavor. but i think 75 min is too long? they should turn 'brown/toasty' looking in 20 min? also i like more barley than choc malt. you have it in the reverse order, at least for my taste. this kind of looks like a porter...

    Help on All Grain Equipment

They dont. I had to order mine from Grainger.com. You cant get them one at a time either, but they were fairly cheap. Or search for McMaster Carr. One suggestion? Dont use the same size ball valve that Flyguy used on his MLT for your kettle. Get a 3/4" valve for the kettle. The blue...

    Moving Primary Downstairs?

Do not ferment in Better Bottles. Ferment in plastic buckets. Much easier to clean, they come with handles, and they are much easier to open up and sample and siphon out of. Also they cost about half as much. Use the Better bottles for secondary. But first- search this site for Secondary vs...

    Maple Free-For-All Ale

+1 Grade B Maple Syrup. I had an obsession for maple stouts. Spent a bunch of time researching. The lower grade syrup, the better it taste in beer, The more 'ruffage' there is present. Higher grades are mostly fermentable sugar. Lower grades have bits of real maple in there, etc, that...

IPA into Saison? say it aint so

Its 2.7% ABV? That could be a probelm. 7oz of hops in a beer that is 2.7% is waaay off. What kind of yeast did you use? Are you sure the OG is correct?

no bitterness after boiling in a hop bag

i gave up on my hop bag a few months back.. i did an IIPA and it tasted like a pale ale. The hop bag had plenty of room to move around, i didnt tie it off or anything. A friend of mine had the same problem. We both decided to stop using them. No issues now. I just throw the hops right in...

    Barleywine for first All-Grain?

dont do it.... you'll most likely end up with like 50% efficiency on your first AG. give it a month and do a few AG batches first so you get familiar with the process of sparging and water temps and boil off and hydrometer readings based off of estimated OG, etc... no sense in making your...
