    Thermocouple plug

you should be very careful when extending/changing the wiring on a thermocouple.. it is very critical that both leads are of the exact same material, and of a known resistance (ie: if you add a switch or connection in between, you are changing the impedance). RTD's are far more robust when it...

How to figure out if my PID can control element power

Look in the manual for a "Manual control mode", or a Duty cycle control mode

    Advice on Enclosure Size

Id look for something thats around 12" H x 8" W x 6" D. but what you might want to do is draw up the envelope dimensions of each of your components in a CAD system and lay them out. Or, if your more comfortable. Draw some full size templates of your components out on paper, and rearrange them...

Any good alternatives to Pt100 RTD ?

No that looks like M8 (or like a 3/8" UNC?). Also, the nut is a sure sign of a straight thread. You may want to silver solder to a pipe fitting, or you will need to seal with a gasket/oring & washer

Mcmaster-Carr does not respect Canadians - don't waste your time

I dont think you understand the issue. He was shipping to a US address. From Mcmaster carr's perspective, they are shipping within the US. There is no other "complexities". And btw, McMaster carr ships to Canada, just not to personal addresses. My company orders from them all the time.

Did I order the wrong RTD?

I dont think the seller knows what he is selling. PT100 is what you want. This means at 0degC the resistance is 100 ohm, and it scales proportionally up to 100 deg C (I believe the resistance is around 180 ohm @ 100degC). Anyway, you should be fine! You will be able to measure below 50 C

    Input on design

Any reason why your going that route? You will need to stir the mlt to avoid stratification plus the job of scooping grains out from around the coils. I do like the innovative use of the two 20 a circuits with 4 elements

Help with wiring 10000W 220v Adjust SCR Voltage Regulator

My suggestion would be to look into a SSR instead of this. There is no way that thing is capable of safely switching 10,000 watts. Current=Power/Voltage = 10,000 watt/240V = 41.6A. For that kind of ampherage depending on the distance you are looking at 8-6GA wire. Those terminals look...

Does turning off the contactor cause the PID to adjust itself?

You are exactly correct. The P, I & D terms are only changed by running the auto tune function, or by manually changing them. The PID doesn't change the way it reacts to a system by itself. This is also the reason why you should re-run the auto tune mode anytime there is a change to the...

Does turning off the contactor cause the PID to adjust itself?

If the process value from your sensor is below your set point on the PID, then it will close your output relay (allowing voltage to pass thru it). It does not sense whether or not the element is actually turning on. Its only input is the temperature sensor. It will continue to monitor the...

Any good alternatives to Pt100 RTD ?

yes that looks like a 1/4-20 thread. So basically you will need to make the seal using a gasket/oring, or silver solder into a pipe fitting.

Any good alternatives to Pt100 RTD ?

Alot are using stuff off ebay from China. You can get RTD's for around $20 and PID around $30. Quality isnt top notch, but certainly acceptable.

    heating elements box

Im using this exact box, not tight at all, plenty of room to make the connections. Depending on your element setup, you might want to invest in a hot water heater "wrench". It is difficult to get a set of plyers/vice grips in the box to get onto the element nut.

    Terminal insulation question

Although I really dont like spade crimp terminals for power type connections, the clearances on your contactors are certainly within UL requirements. Bolted connections are always better. But, given solid crimped connections, with a treatment of shrink tubing you should be just fine.

Help with wiring 10000W 220v Adjust SCR Voltage Regulator

What is the ampherage rating on that thing? Those terminals look pretty small to me.

    Keggle vs 20 boiler?

The difference is 4.5 gallons :) but seriously, its all about your budget, if you've got the cash to spend, sure why not, you only live once. On the other hand, sanke's are a great economical alternative that will certainly last many years.

    Multiple RTD's?

oh I took what you wanted to do was switch inputs from various sensors. If your thinking about hooking up multiple RTDs, you will need to create some kind of conditioning circuit to average the resistances. Its do-able, but your probably further ahead, to stick with one sensor.
