    secondary?

43 percent sugar is pretty huge. usually 10% maybe 25% but some people complain about cidery flavors. have you tried it?

    New to Brew

Ha, wow. Yeah sorry I didn't even calculate the time to actually brew the stuff.

    New to Brew

The way I see it, you've got 1 week to drink 2 cases of Grolsch. They are air tight... for wine. Unless you've got the metal wiring like you’d need for champagne bottles, I wouldn’t be too confident with the carbonation pressures.

    re-adding hydrometer test beer

It's a 1/3 of a beer maximum. Potentially ruining 2 cases of beer isn't worth the risk. Plus it gives you an excellent reason to drink a little bit of your beer early.

Dont know what to do now?

they swell pretty fast at room temp. I'm impatient and forgetful. so i usually pitch them 2 or 3 hours post smack. by then there is already activity in the pouch.

Grolsch bottles losing carbonation when refrigerated

The seals on Groslch bottles seem to be a much spongier rubber than the LHBS bottles I feel. I have several of both. Grolsh however, tends to be cheaper than the LHBS type and Grolsh fills theirs up with beer! There is no way to tell how long the LHBS bottles have sat there. I'd still try...

Dont know what to do now?

Ok, so you bought three, pitched two, and none of the three swelled, is that right? Take the one back for a refund and grab some dry yeast. saflager s-23 or w-34. It's cheaper and should get things moving along. Since a mexican lager isn't very specialized you don't need the Wyeast or White labs...

    Vibrating Kettle - Electric Stovetop

Mine did the same thing. I found if you place it partically on the burner, like 3/4, there is a sweet spot that it will settle down. Then I was given a cheap turkey fryer. It is leaps and bounds better than my electric stove. It also cut nearly an hour off brewing since I can heat up more water...

    Fruit on top?

The additional fruit will cause another fermentation. Just like checking you're primary FG, when you get two readings a couple of days apart that are the same, you're good to go. I've done it twice and once it was 5 days once it was a week. The stuff that is floating is still imparting...

What kind of music do you listen to while brewing

Silence. Just the gentle sound of propane. No wife, no kid, no dog, no cat, just peaceful silence.
  11. SledgeH

    Fruit on top?

Leave it be. Some fruit will not sink and you'll need to rack below it come bottling time.
  12. SledgeH

    Floating trub

Don't worry about it and rack below it when it is bottling time.

Muntons Carb Drops / Tabs ruin every beer

the conditioning tabs are pretty neat to, in the fact that you can control the carbonation level to an extent. The tabs are significantly smaller, so each 12oz bottle gets 1 - 5 depending on style and carb level you want. I'd give them a shot.

Sanitation w/ Frozen Strawberries in Secondary?

Good to hear. I used a nylon hop bag on my rack and cane as a filter. You may find something like that helpful when moving to tertiary

Sanitation w/ Frozen Strawberries in Secondary?

Strawberries can be a real mess in your secondary. I’ll never use them again. Some float, some sink, and some hang out in suspension. The pulp and seeds did a good once over on my bottling wand and rack/cane. I’d strongly suggest blending them if you are planning on dumping...

Frozen bottles and wrapping carboy in heavy blanket bad idea?

I’d throw the whole bucket into any type of container. A cooler would be optimal, but a plastic storage bin of any type works too. Fill that with water and use the frozen 2L to cool the water. It will drop the temp. All you will be missing is the wet towel and fan at that point. But this...

Muntons Carb Drops / Tabs ruin every beer

I’ve split catches using brewer’s best conditioning tabs. They are great. Other than needing to gently invert my bottles for a few days to get them dissolved there haven’t been any problems. They even add a bit of decent flavor due to the DME.

    Fixing a tasteless beer

Wow. I made something like this on purpose for beer pong, so that we wouldn't get blasted. Short of that, I don't see any other use to make something this low ABV. Have you had a skip n go naked? It's beer, vodka, and lemonade concentrate. Pretty powerful, big crowd pleaser. That's am option...

    When to move to secondary?

Glad to hear you know that you don't need to crack it open in the future. I'd still keep the external bucket clean, but no need to clean while it's doing it's thing.

    When to move to secondary?

Dcodd87 you're hijacking the post, but I'll answer anyway. You need to caramelize the pumpkin. And i've always added it to primary. It's pretty filthy stuff in regards to consistency and racking. you might want to try no pumpkin at all and going with a dry hop of cinnamon, vanilla, clove or allspice
