Adding hot wort straight from boil pot to glass carboy

I'm planning a double brew day this weekend and am looking for a bit of guidance. I normally chill my wort in the pot (ice bath in the sink) but since I will need it for the second batch, could I just siphon the hot wort into a pre-heated carboy? If I did this, I would then be treating it as...

First try at formulating a recipe (All Citra IPA with continuous hopping schedule)

A grain mill is right near the top of my to-buy list, I swear! Problem being, local availability. Only LHBS that has mills has them starting at around $200. Hopefully, I just haven't looked close enough and missed the less expensive options. How well does a corona mill function? I'm assuming it...

First try at formulating a recipe (All Citra IPA with continuous hopping schedule)

I've been getting about 60% efficiency with my set up. I'm assuming the crush I'm getting from the LHBS is too coarse, so I'm accounting for that as best I can. I'd love to try yours too, maybe a bottle swap once it's all brewed and bottled?

First try at formulating a recipe (All Citra IPA with continuous hopping schedule)

Upped the total hops to 8 ounces and grouped my additions into the last 20 minutes. Here's the revised schedule: Amt Name Type # %/IBU 0.50 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Mash 60.0 min Hop 6 3.8 IBUs 0.50 oz Citra [12.00 %] - First Wort 60.0 min Hop 7 20.8 IBUs 0.50 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min...

First try at formulating a recipe (All Citra IPA with continuous hopping schedule)

First off, Thank you! I really appreciate the advice you guys are providing. Since I'm new to the whole recipe creating game, it is very helpful to have some input. I've altered the grain bill slightly according to what you guys have posted. Further, I will be using S-05 instead of...

First yeast harvest from a bottle of La Trappe Tripel with pictures

Yeah, and I'll step it up one or two times and then separate into jars using the yeast washing methods outlined in the sticky. All you want is that white layer on top of the trub (which is 3 or 4 times as thick now by the way). Should give me plenty of opportunity to try out some tripel recipes.

First yeast harvest from a bottle of La Trappe Tripel with pictures

You'll have to wait for some of the more experienced members to answer your question about the starter volumes. As for aerating, I used the swirl it often and try not to spill it method. Obviously, less than ideal but since I'm lacking a stir plate right now I'm limited with my options. The tin...

First yeast harvest from a bottle of La Trappe Tripel with pictures

Interested in brewing a tripel sometime so I figured I may as well try and get some authentic yeast for the brew. Here's my attempt (which appears successful) at harvesting yeast from the bottle dregs. Used a half cup of DME for 2 quarts of water and followed standard sanitation procedures...

Irish Stout Ode To Arthur, Irish Stout (Guinness Clone)

Brewed this up on Friday, but forgot to cut the hops in half along with the rest of the ingredients for a 5 gallon batch. Oops! Beersmith is saying it's going to be 60 IBU's. Guess that means I just need to brew it again.

    Starter from bottled beer?

What is the risk of pitching the yeast to larger amount of starter wort (~500 ml) as opposed to getting there by stepping up?
