Craziest thing you have put in a mash or boil

There was a guy on here talking about throwing an entire pumpkin pie into the boil.

Gonna add some more yeast to an already bottled Barleywine...

I'd use champagne yeast instead. Are you certain you didn't forget your priming sugar?

Vancouver BC - What not to Miss?

I actually just arrived in Vancouver yesterday for a week long visit. I checked out Granville island brewery so far and have plans to go to gastown soon. There is a liquor store that carries a ton of cool beer on the north side of broadway west of oak street. There was an Aussie running it who...

Historical Beer: Sahti Sahti (Finnish Juniper Ale) -- 1st Place Cat. 23, 2nd place Best in Show

Just doughed in. HOLY CRAP does this ever smell great. The juniper liquor is ridiculously fragrant. I couldn't keep my face away from the water as it was heating up. I'll follow up with how everything turns out!

    Steam Whistle Pilsner

Hahaha yeah, the whistle is a pretty nice touch. The best I could tell was that it was being run off the steam from the bottle cleaning machine. The tour was great, the history behind the place was really interesting and much more rich than I could have anticipated.

    Steam Whistle Pilsner

I do, actually. I live about 20 minutes away from the brewery and liked it from the day I tried it. It does taste best in the heat of summer, but I'd gladly drink it during the colder months.

    Steam Whistle Pilsner

Went on the tour today and got a bit of info about the ingredients. The guide was a bit tight lipped about specifics though. -Malt: 2-row -Hops: Saaz, Perle and Spalter -No info about yeast, but the brewmaster used to work at Pilsner Urquell, so I'm assuming a strain similar to theirs...

Historical Beer: Sahti Sahti (Finnish Juniper Ale) -- 1st Place Cat. 23, 2nd place Best in Show

Well, I just harvested a bunch of fresh juniper the other day. I picked up all the ingredients from the shop I need and will be brewing tomorrow. Unfortunately, the LHBS was out of 1272, I picked up California V (WlP051) as a substitute and have it spinning on the stir plate as I type this. Any...

Never has a diacetyl rest been so important

I guess the bonus of being an alzheimers ridden brewer is that you'll constantly be brewing. It's like Groundhog Day with brewing

Never has a diacetyl rest been so important

http://scienceblog.com/55899/artificial-butter-flavoring-ingredient-linked-to-key-alzheimers-disease-process/ Be careful ladies and gentlemen, your beer may give you alzheimers.

    The beer store

A Favourite of mine is Mad Tom IPA by Muskoka Brewery. Creemore Springs also makes a very nice Lager. Flying Monkeys Brewery has some cool beers too, namely their Hoptical Illusion and Smashbomb Atomic IPA. I would highly recommend Mill Street Brewery's seasonal sampler pack. Their beer is...

    American 2-Row/Galena SMaSH

I'd use the 1 oz from the 30min addition as a dry hop instead. That would really bump up your hop aroma

    Oats, rye and wheat

Sorry it took me so long to reply. This beer turned out awesome! Smells very much like a german lager, and has a very mild spiciness from either the hops or the rye, can't tell for sure. Carbonation is great and the mouthfeel is bang on. Everyone who has tried it has been amazed by it, and...

    Hop Testing Pale Ale Recipe

Hmmm that flavour seems really interesting to me since I've never come across it. Do you have any suggestions for other hops to pair it with in an IPA? What does the base pale ale recipe look like for Citra and Summit using the same additions? I appreciate your input by the way, every bit of...
