    am i ready to bottle

No!!!! It is letting off too much C02 you will blow the bottles up. The brew will need at least 10 days fermentation time. Also i am not familiar with this brew but the starting gravity seems low. Please if you post a question like this state how many days and what was in the brew Eg sugars...

    HELP.......secondary fermentation question?

Racking is not required for most brews. Many do it as it can make a beer clearer or they do it to add things such as hops, finings or for bulk priming. Don't worry about the yeast cake in the secondary, there will always be some as the yeast finishes off and drops out of the beer. In fact that...

    Yeast.. mmmm

I often rehydrate, usually some of the yeast sinks and some floats. After 30 mins or so a bit of bubbling can go on and a small foamy head. Any of that activity is normal, i have had one yeast just dump to the bottom and nothing happened, that was the only yeast that didn't work, i had to pitch...

2nd brew is lookin gross! pic inside.

Looks like a collapsed krausen to me, give it a few more days, most of it will probably sink

    Forgot to boil priming sugar

The sediment is bits of sugar and yeast, a millimeter or so is normal, you can shake it but there is no reason. Try not to stir it up when you pour your brew.

secondary a must for big beers?

Most people i know rack, i rarely rack, a lot of people rack to dry hop but there doesn't seem to be a reason not to dry hop in the primary. Adding fruit etc seems to be a good reason to rack, yeast harvesting is another good reason. In the end with racking you double the chance of infection...

The missus asked me what all those green leafy things in the fridge were... Hops.... of course but i can see how the mistake could be made.

Aftertaste in all of my beers

There are a lot of posts about HB twang.... basically it's a variety of factors, Ifish summed it up, sugars, Temps, extracts and yeast. Shelf life also helps. I wonder if when you pour you are getting the yeast cake from the bottle into the beer?

    Coopers Kit's...your secrets?

**** Coopers kits are pre-boiled and do not need to be boiled at all for a straight beer, just add 2 liters of boiling water to dissolve the extract, add your sugars (dex or dme) and add about 20 liters of cold water I have made dozens of these kits by that method without a problem

    Yeast Breeding

R.E yeast washing, apparently it has fallen out of favor, I harvest my yeast cakes, simple process swill up the cake with a little beer and bottle it in a PET and refrigerate for a night. Next day the beer is on top and the yeast under. Pour off most of the beer, will up the rest and bottle in a...

    Trub and Grain Disposal?

Trub is great, it is alcoholic, but watered down it is good on plants, i usually half fill the fermenter with water and stir the trub in then water a few plants with it. I did used to do it with less water but i almost killed a rosemary with it so now i dilute it more. I believe spent grain is...

    Tasting Question

Ok clarification, do not put hydrometer samples back in the wort it is the easiest way to infect a brew. Taste a bit and tip it out or if it is good drink it all, do not pour it back in.

First Batch Bottle at 2 weeks

The first brew i ever made i cracked on week 2, i then made another 5 brews with corrections to fix the green beer taste... by week 6 the beer was fine and now i have 5 variants that all taste good but with modifications they never needed. I learn't more from each brew but i would have made a...

    Beer Side Effects

Fusel alcohol is produced at higher brewing temps, around 26*c or 80*f, it will give you a clanger of a headache. To reduce brewing temps consider sitting the fermenter in a tray of iced water with a towel draped over it (into the water) it will produce evaporation and therefore cool the wort...

is getting your beer stuck at 1.020 really that bad??

FG depends on the type of fermentables in a brew, what did you use, what was your SG? If your SG was 1070 it would be a mean brew that dropped to 1006. Dextrose Maltodextrin Dried malt extract Liquid malt extract All grain All of these things will change the FG as they add different things...

very dumb airlock mistake what do you think?

The brew is fine, i have double pitched a few brews and they are ok. You may want to add finings at around day 10 as that clumps to the yeast and causes it to drop out like hippies at Nimbin, this may help clear the brew and also you will have less yeast in the bottle.
