    Dirty Socks??

I think I am having the same problem with a beer I just racked to secondary last night. Doesn't really taste bad but the smell was like dirty socks. I keep my hops in airtight mason jars in the freezer. I've only had the hops for a month or so, maybe a little more. Can they still get...

    Sweaty Sock Smell?

This also just happened to me using S-05. Not sure what's going on. It didn't taste too bad, but smelled awful. I threw 3 oz of citra in it hoping that would make the aroma a little better. I'd like to know how this turns out... :subscribes:

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

Awesome, both of these look solid. I will add these to my "to be brewed soon" list.

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

:( Sorry to get your hopes up! To be fair, I ordered them last week. I tried looking at some other places but it looks like they are all sold out. Hopsdirect.com has belma pellets for sale for 5.25 a pound. Supposed to be a spicier but similar fruity newer hops like citra, if you like that...

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

So anyone here have a good citra/amarillo ipa recipe they would be willing to share?

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

Sweeeet I just bought a pound of citra and amarillo from label peelers. Having never tried amarillo, and loving citra, this is good to read! :ban:

    Sweetwater Blue

That they do! :D Sounds good, that's just what I did for the strawberries, but wasn't sure it would work. Thanks again!

    Sweetwater Blue

^ Thanks for the input. My gf loves this beer but I couldn't seem to find a good recipe. I've made the centennial blonde before, so perhaps I'll go with that one. In regards to racking on the blueberries - I have done this with strawberries with moderate success, but I think blue berries tend...

HBT > Help make my next beer!

Oh! Forgot another detail. I will be using a 1L starter as well, based off beersmith calcs. I only added this because I want to show off my stir plate I made this weekend. :ban: :D ::Shameless self promotion plug::

HBT > Help make my next beer!

Here's my revised recipe (didn't get to brew it last weekend, but trying to do it this weekend). I'm still debating on the table sugar, only because I've never done that before. Does it affect taste at all or just the OG/Alc. content? I decided based off the above to simplify a few things and...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Thanks to this and many other threads, I finished my DIY stir plate! Can't remember the exact costs, but mine was a litte more expensive than some, probably about $25-30 all said and done. That being said, it was still a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new one! Here she is (note I...

New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

^^ Awesome, thanks to both of you. Looks like I will be buying a vac sealer in the near future...once I recoup from other recent brewing purchases haha.

New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

How is everyone storing their hops? I've been using mason jars and putting them in the fridge. Is this a problem? I use them fairly quickly and wouldn't have them sitting in there for more than 6 months at most. I don't mind a little loss in potency but should I invest in a vaccuum sealer...

    Hop shelf life.

    Try hopsdirect.com or labelpeelers.com . That's where I just ordered a few pounds from!

    Hop shelf life.

I have mine in pint mason jars after I open them in the freezer. Am I reading this correctly where people are saying I should be pumping some CO2 in there every time I open them? Because I open them every once in a while to take a sniff (can't help myself :D ). They won't be in my freezer...

Now that I can control my fermenations temps....how should I?

I typically shoot for the low range (I also travel for work) and assume that whatever I have the cooler set to, the beer is probably 5* warmer (I tape the probe to the carboy and insulate it with a towel). When I come home I bump the temp up after a few days towards the higher end. Hope that...
