    Which beer bottles you use?

Call it Dumpster Diving, I have been using one and two liter plastic soda bottles for decades. Free, strong and reusable. If you are bottle conditioning / carbonating, easy to tell when your brew is ready. I can take my home brew on the river as well as to tailgating events without the...

    Corny Keg Troubleshooting

Start by isolating the leak, I spray with StarSan and look for bubbles. The lid O ring compresses over time, meaning that when you go to reseal the lid, it does not fill the gap. New O rings are not expensive. You can reuse them by letting them rest to regain their original shape...

    a beer with ginger

I have always used grated ginger, My lemon grass Ginger is a Wheat base beer with Mt Hood hops. The Rye IPA brew used Citra and Chinook. The Ginger adds an initial warm mouth feel and aroma, then a nice mellow aftertaste. The initial heat has dissipated in time. At least this is my...

Reusing 12 oz bottle caps - Yes caps. Pry off caps.

If you are going to this extreme, Just recycle one and two liter soft drink plastic bottles. I have been doing this for decades with not one problem. They don't break, they hold more pressure than glass, they are free for the picking. Also Easy to check carbonation.

    a beer with ginger

Ginger is a wonderful adjunct, I have used it along with lemongrass in a nice. "Lawn Mower" wheat beer. I've used it in late boil as well as in the mash. It adds a nice side note. it can be over powering at first but I have found that that dies down as the beer matures. My...

About to order a bunch of hop plants, need some guidance

Welcome to growing hops, Lots of good advise here. I grow varieties in Western Montana, where we have have cold and snow. Advise, Hops like to visit each other, both growth and rhizomes, so leave enough room to keep these buggers separated. Also, Once you have hops, you have hops...

    Damaged Corny!!

The old leaking keg. I have been able to purchase or been given a number of Corny kegs in various conditions. I agree that the fix might not be worth it, TIG welding is expensive as it should be as it is very technical and the equipment is expensive. Here is a product that I have used...

What's The Best Deal You've Gotten on brewing Equipment?

Where do I begin, I was given a 10 gallon Corny keg, a new brewery gave our brewing club 7 full bags of malt. Another brewery makes out brew club a unreal deal on Hops, I got 5 corny kegs and a CO2 cylinder for $50, and the cylinder was full. I found an old 70's industrial kegerator...

Reusing glass bottles - how can I figure threads for replacement caps?

Here is a thought for you, If you want to stay with plastic bottles, take a look at reusing 1 and 2 liter soda pop plastic bottles? I have used these for years and years with no problem. I have bottle conditioned in them, again with no problem. They will withstand more pressure than...

    Taking the plunge

Welcome back to brewing. I myself came back about 10 years ago, from extract in the old days to all grain with the conventional propane burner, Coleman cooler and of course kegging. I transitioned into a Brew Boss system about 7 years ago as it was one of the first electric system out...
