Is their any Homebrew stores that don't charge arm and leg for shipping?

If you're looking for something specific, make sure to give credit to the online places that carry those specialized parts...as often their prices will be cheaper even factoring in shipping! If you buy 20 things and pay $20 for shipping, that's like saying, is it cheaper by a dollar than my LHBS...

    Random Picture Thread

Too bad the competing product didn't care to be "perfect". They were satisfied with just "Word".

apparently action news today, the house behind me is burning down....

Just don't bring them a rauchbier. Talk about a faux pas.

    Custom/personalized beer glasses

I used a brush on acid etch gel on the glass, using a poly film maskant that I trimmed using an exacto knife. It turned out just ok. I wouldn't recommend the method unless you have access to a laser CNC. Carry on with your requisition for a vendor to fabricate your pint glasses...nothing to see...

    Brew Easy?

I built my own brew easy 2 vessel system with 2 pumps and I gotta say, their price is not unreasonable. But I learned a lot...which is very valuable. 😁

    Too many esters

Tasted the porter and pale ale tonight and I'm finally satisfied enough that they are drinkable. I think it was a combination of: 1. Bad mash temp stability 2.rehydrated my dry yeast in DI H2O, which is apparently a no-no 3. Kegged too early 4. didnt pay attention to final beer pH when making my...

Water Profile for Dry Hopped Lager

A number of years ago I made a strong 6% lager fermented with wlp 802. Straw colored, and I can't remember what I did with the water... But I bittered with magnum, tossed in saaz at knockout and dry hopped with simcoe. I called it Piney the Lager. It did indeed have a lot of pine aroma which the...

WLP835 German Lager X is in Production

Oh man I wish I had known about this when I placed my last order. I've got a helles recipe that I'm going to make with Diamond Lager... But I really wanted to share it with my Dad, since Andechs is his favorite. Lots of business trips to Germany in the 90s...we got to go there on a family trip...

Anyone run nitrogen in their kegerator for any beer instead of Co2?

I just think that the fact that nitro is abbreviated the same as nitroglycerin, nitrous oxide, etc... it just has a cool factor. When we talk about CO2 we have to enunciate the chemical formula or name--"carbon dioxide". Just doesn't roll off the tongue the same way. The one time I had argon in...

    Munich Dunkel question

I have had dunkel in munich at HB, and your second one isn't too far off! Just read your other post about having brewed Jamil's recipe. I've brewed it too, and actually preferred it over the dunkel I had in munich (I couldn't believe it myself...I've brewed a lot of bad beer in my past--and...

Am I the only one who enjoys bottling?

I reckon closed transfer kegging is easier...although I love the variety I can do with bottles. I never had any shelf life issues...even when I was siphoning from carboy to bucket to bottle... Actually the most shelf life issues I had was when I was open transfer racking to a keg my IPAs...they...

    Fermentation gone wrong

not exactly sure what industrial means. Sometimes it can be lack of passivation leading to a metallic taste, or too high in a brewing salt...or too high of dry hops has tasted "coppery" to me before (even tho I have no copper in my brewery). Sometimes when people say "industrial" they actually...

Is there a list of big krausen yeasts that tend to require blow off tube?

I don't always use a blowoff tube... But when I do, it's already too late.

How to tell difference between stainless and chrome Perlick forward sealing faucets in a photo?

chrome plating is going to have a kind of mirror finish. stainless will usually have a kind of brushed look to it.

I don't recall my yeast doing stuff like that in the past. Got any pictures of the top?

Sublimation sounds like a killer name for a drink. Very ironic, but also very cool sounding.

Am I too picky? (Nitro Cold Brew question)

there's a reason they're called coffee filters when in fact in chemistry they're just called filter paper. I think it's common practice, not too picky at all.
