    Roadtrip!! - Richmond area

I go to Richmond annually. Hardywood is pretty good.

    Dumped 3 batches in a row ☹ Can’t figure out what’s wrong.

Take apart your ball valves. That's all I got.

    Favorite Pilsner?

Counting only Pils beers (not broader category of lagers like Czech premium, etc...) I'd have to go with Trumer Pils. Now...to broaden it up a bit, I think Czechvar is kinda competitive with Pilsner Urquell, but some consider it in a premium category...whatever.... If we take style guidelines...

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I made homemade pies a few days ago. Been loving taking Aldi specially selected Marinara and simmering for a little bit before topping the crust. My peel broke many a moon ago, so I flip over a hotel pan when I need to...works ok 😁

    50 lb PBW $180

My LHBS will refill my small 1 lb container of pbw for just a couple bucks... 😁but I have to drive there...and then while I'm there I might as well get a beer. They'll get their profit one way or another. 😅

    Brewing while covid positive

Regardless of how it spreads....I can say, think about how your taste or smell may be affected. Not that this is a reason to not brew. Have you brewed Biermuncher's centennial blonde before? Would help if you already knew the target since my smell was affected by COVID. That's actually been...

Aluminum brew pot question - oxide

Just my paranoid self...but should @RedL boil some apple juice in it and cool then taste to confirm no metallic flavor? I had a horrible metallic taste in my first ever batch of beer I eventually (I think) traced to my aluminum pot. The second batch did not taste metallic (even tho I used the...

Back at it after two-year break. Anything new while I was away?

I think the availability of higher quality craft grains has been pretty cool (e.g. mecca grade and others, as well as specialty lines of big names like weyermann Barke). A few yeast players have come and gone in the past few years as well as yeast prices going up. 🤦‍♂️

    Which yeast?

TLDR: NOTTY! Hmm...medium dry but what ABV? Do you like it really fizzy or just a little sparkle? Kegging? I've worked with all those you list except wlp677 and qa23... My preference on the list would be notty, but I'm really impatient... 😁 I've done notty in both mead and cider and liked each...

    Junction box identification

There's a small (like $5) tester you can buy at home depot...mine is Dark green, I think it is "commercial electric brand". You touch it between a couple of the leads and it'll tell you if it's 120 or 240. Also useful to get a pen tester that'll tell u if a line is "hot" while ur at the big box...

    Oxygen for oxygenating wort

I use a brand new M4 with a CGA 540 and a pediatric flow regulator. I jammed on it my old setup from my LHBS which was from my old acquarium pump...it's a 2 micron stone attached to some tubing with a sterile filter in between. Airgas has no tank to exchange so they were obligated to fill mine...

    Anchoring a Riptide Pump?

I drilled my stainless shelf to mount two pumps.... Works very well... Other installation where I drilled and mounted some black iron to be a stand for my pot doesn't work quite as well and I'm planning to swap it for some welded tube soon. Just find some sheet metal screws that are just a tiny...

    Random Picture Thread

Must have been Kobayashi Kito. Makes me wonder, whY KK? Hope he doesn't get beached, then he'll be Kobayashi Maroo'ned. Thanks, I'll be here all week. :ban:

    Camlock Cotter Pins?

I didn't answer the poll, but on a related note I'd like all ball valves to get rid of the little sliding piece that I have to lift to turn the valve. Great they designed a valve I can padlock in place...I never intend to! And it's an extra step I have to do every time I turn the valve

    Drinking Horn help?

Hmm...first off, very cool project! I admire your ambition! I watched a YouTube video a while back showing the making of a leather mug (blackjack) He used pine pitch and beeswax but said next time he'd rather he have just used straight pine pitch. Hope that helps!

Home Depot really wants me to drink bottled beer while I'm painting

I'm just laughing at how so many of us would go to home depot for brewing equipment before they even sold brewing equipment (e.g. paint strainer bags, buckets, vinyl tubing)...not that I would ever do such a thing :ghostly:

    Danstar/Lallemand Munich vs Munich Classic

Pitched a whole packet of Munich classic in a 5.5 gallon batch of 1.05 German Hefe last night... My "blow off tube" on my 7.5 gallon bucket is a tiny little 5/16" tube jammed into a mason jar (space reasons in deep freezer ferm chamber). Checking on it frequently to avoid blow off issues!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just put 5 gallons of More beer German Hefe in the fermenter. Hit target OG... Glad I had these ingredients around, I was *intending* to partigyle brew my Russian imperial stout and dry Irish stout, but then I accidentally went out and bought a bunch of water...realized I didn't need soft water...
