    Help with first recipe

I have brewed with strictly extract kits up to now(4). I am ready to stray and create my first big beer. Looking to make my first hop bomb. I have been playing with the recipe calculator on brewgr.com. This is what I've come up with. Just looking for any suggestions, or ideas on how this might...

    Pitch more yeast?

The OG was 1.044 which was right on par with the recipe...update though, after swirling the wort a bit, I measured the gravity a few days later and it was at 1.014, so she's still active, but since it had been in the fermenter for almost 3 weeks, I went ahead and racked to secondary to let it...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I've been trying to read this entire thread...whooo...good reading, but I really gotta get back to my life..anyway, I just had an experience that reminded me of this post... A local liquor store just put taps in and sells growlers. Which is a big deal here(Finally!!!)The owner did a great job...

    Pitch more yeast?

It's been fermenting between 67 and 70 degrees. I did stir it gently about a week ago.

    Pitch more yeast?

Thinking about racking to secondary today, I wasn't going to, but I feel like this beer needs to sit longer, and it's been in the primary for almost 3 weeks now.

    Pitch more yeast?

I brewed my True Brew Porter extract kit on 1-1-13. I posted in another thread about my 85 degree yeast pitch (too high I know). Anyways, my OG was 1.044, and I had excellent activity within 24 hours. But since then, no visible signs of fermentation, and I've been at 1.020 for over a week now...

    Pitch too warm?

Yea, I promised myself no more brews until I get a chiller. I hate waiting for an hour or longer to let it cool. I also forgot to mention the temp dropped slowly in the room I have it in, and it's at a steady 66 now. Just took a day or so to get down there

    Pitch too warm?

I just brewed a Porter on Jan 1, and this being my 4th batch took waaaaaaay longer to cool. Almost 2 hours of waiting for wort to drop, using ice baths. Anyways, I had to leave for the evening, so instead of leaving the wort to sit, I figured I was better off pitching the yeast which at this...

    Recipe help

Thanks for the input. Yea, I bought 3 lbs of Dark DME to replace the 3.3 lbs of Dark LME. I wondered about flavor loss in not using the LME. Personally, I have just found that I dont like that twang syrupy flavor that the LME leaves, so I'm gonna try a brew without it. Also, if I do add a...

    Recipe help

I'm going to be brewing a porter from a True Brew extract kit. I'd like to substitute the can of dark LME with more DME, suggestions on what and how much I should get at my LHBS. I like a nice roasty robust porter, so any other helpful tips are appreciated.

    Too soon to Bottle?

I brewed an Irish Stout from an extract kit on 12-7-12. It began fementing the next morning, and was a very short "bubbling" time. Haven't seen any action for 16 days. I was gonna go with a 3 week primary fermentation time, then straight to bottle, but I'm kinda anxious to bottle tomorrow...

    Oops!

    Yep, my OG was 1.038

    Oops!

Sadly, I didn't realize what I had done until I was done steeping. Boiling wort as we speak

    Oops!

I can't believe I did it, but I added the DME into the muslin bag with the grains and steeped for 20 minutes. It's been a while since I brewed, I can't believe I did this. Is this gonna be a big deal in the end?

Brewing Irish Stout Tonight - Input please!!!

So this will be my 3rd Homebrew. All have been from kits (too afraid to stray yet) Anyway, I have an Irish Stout Kit from True Brew. I was just curious if anyone had suggestions on how I could make this brew as good as possible. Maybe add some Oats? More Ingredients? I was gonna stray away from...
