So we'll never see a picture of the sensor side?

    Aluminum pot seasoning question

I would assume the kettle comes already anodized? If you are not so sure about that, there are DIY anodizing instructions on the web. Regarding cleaners: supposedly both acids and bases will attack aluminum after eating through the oxide layer if given enough time: Is aluminum amphoteric? A...

    Glycol pump alternative

I have been using two of these small pumps, which cost $8/pump; one of them has been running submerged in water/glycol coolant (2:1 mix) for a few months now without problems. It might be too small for your application though. I'm using it to pump coolant through a loop with up to two 5 gallon...

    Best way to start brewing

My 2 cents: a) there's nothing wrong with starting with a Mr.Beer extract kit; I don't think it's that much money wasted, even if you only use it for one brew. You can even reuse the plastic bottles (if it still comes with those?). b) definitely read the free version of 'How to Brew', and get a...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Good to hear! I also roasted some of it today. The repackaged green coffee smelled just fine, no trace of the slightly dank smell of the original cloth bags. Must have been the bags. The beans expanded maybe a bit more than usual (for me), more than a factor two. Both first and second crack...

    Glycol chiller reviews

Are they getting nasty from the inside? You can clean the outside without emptying the glycol mix inside (provided you have self-sealing disconnects).

    RIP Riptide pump

Glad to hear this came to a good resolution.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Thanks; I'm worried that the shipment I received might be a bit damp. It was a few ounces underweight though, which I don't think the seller would do on purpose, so that argues for it getting drier, maybe?

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I'm not sure I want fruit salad in my coffee, thank you very much. Also, preserves? Why not fresh fruit? Not that I want that in my coffee, either. How about just coffee flavoured coffee... Has anybody roasted the 'roaster rescue' brazilian beans yet (see pshankstar's post a few posts back)...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

Really, 'Teig' is the word? That just means 'dough'. 4 gallons out of 18.5 lbs of grain, that will make a very sturdy beer - even if you were aiming for 5gallons... I guess that's what stout means. If it were a lager, it would probably be a double or triple bock, and you could give it one of...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

18.5 lbs for how many gallons? Sounds like a bad day with the stuck mash. Could have been worse though, like burning tons of sugar into your stove top... Also, supposedly clean wort is totally overrated; pretty sure I read that here somewhere.

Dual supply (240V/120V) grounding and GFCI

Hot/hot/neutral, really? Those first electricians that emigrated to the US and wrote the original code must have left the old country for a reason :mug:

Any ideas for cutting a cooler WITHOUT a hole saw?

Soldering iron? Hot poker? (It takes a bit of effort to melt through a relatively clean hole, but it can be done.) If the thermometer has a three inch face, that doesn't mean the stem is three inches diameter, does it? Actually, sounds quite unlikely.

    Question about dampfbier

Isn't Anchor Steam a steam beer, which is what Dampfbier means? No idea what they are doing differently though: I thought all commercial brew kettles were heated with steam??

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I bought 12 lbs of the same Brazilian beans. I'm not 100% sure I liked the bags' smell. I repackaged into 1 gallon freezer bags immediately. The beans looked ok to me: uniform size, no debris, broken beans, or fibers in there. I would be very interested to hear about experiences roasting and...

    Best programmable temperature controller?

Odd that nobody replied. There must be people out there that have built Arduino or Raspberry Pi based temperature controllers. One of my three RPIs regularly loses its WiFi connection but otherwise keeps running, one has hosed its SD card for the 2nd or 3rd time now, and only one is running...

    compact peltier cooled carboy setup

I moved my hot side radiator outside the window, since A/C is off since a few days. In principle if it's cold enough outside I could just run the pumps and leave the Peltiers off, but that would require quite a bit of rewiring. It would also make the system less flexible to deal with varying...

    compact peltier cooled carboy setup

Hi Christian, I think calculating the actual efficiency is a bit involved, but the curves from Meerstetter in my post above tell that for example for a 30 degree (Kelvin or Celsius, not Fahrenheit) temperature difference you can get 40% efficiency if you run the Peltiers at half their maximum...
