I have 53-liter plastic fermentors. I aim for 20 liters of wort for the fermenter. So more than half of the volume of the vessel is headspace. I have fermented a couple of beers this way and I have not had any flavor issues. The fermentation starts pretty quick and is vigorous for a day or so...
I live in an over 55 community, they have an ice machine for us so I use ice to cool my wort. I usually use my plastic deep sink, just pour a cooler of ice in, set the brew pot on the ice, and pour another cooler of ice in. We are moving so the deep sink is at our old place. I used a plastic tub...
I have been brewing kits since I re-started brewing. I have entered the kit recipes in Brew Father and Brewersfriend, I copied the recipe and re-named it so I could fiddle with the ingredients. My long term goal is that I can buy ingredients in bulk and make less expensive beers compared to...
New dryer outlets do indeed have ground, neutral, and two 120VAC legs. Neutral is the one left off in older dryers, welders etc. Metal appliances without ground have been a big nono for quite some time.
It's called passivation. I watched this cat on Youtube and the inside of his Digiboil was shining like a diamond in a goat's ass. I am thinking about a low abrasive cleaner like Bar Keepers Friend.
I was wondering about fermenting ale yeast with low temps and if that would help lower the ABV. I would love to do English bitter beers. Do you have any recipe recommendations? What yeasts are "expressive low-attenuating yeast strains"? It seems the trend is always toward high ABV tolerant...
Do what you want. If the anode takes dozens of years to sacrifice why do water heater manufacturers recommend checking the anode every year?
"A traditional tank-type water heater lasts an average of eight to 12 years.
Inside the tank, an anode rod protects the interior lining by attracting all...
How far is it from the breaker panel to your brewing rig? You have space to add a 50A GFCI breaker in that panel. Run an appropriately sized cord to your rig and coil it up and hang it on the wall when you aren't using it. Make a new friend on an electrician and trade beer for electrical work.
I would like a beer with less alcohol. Not necessarily 1% but maybe 3.2%? As I age the alcohol seems to hit me harder and I love the taste of beer. I have said for years that I would drink good low alcohol beer all day long. I will try that session RIS recipe.
Copper pipes have a green coating in them just like a copper roof. A sufficiently acidic solution would remove that protective coating. That is why RO systems don't use copper. The pure water will etch the pipes and put copper in the water.
For one legionnaire's disease. For two water heaters are not stainless, they are glass lined steel. The lining breaks down and you are eroding steel into the water. There is an anode in the tank to help to extend the life of the steel tank, the anode is made from aluminum and magnesium, you are...
