    is boling really necessary

In my first kit I just used boiling water with hops and to swill out the can of malt extract, And as I was bottling it tasted fine if flat at that point. I still have to try the finished beer but every where else I read you should boil for a long time in your water. Mine was a kit so may not...

    Bottling bitter ?

I have brewed a London bitter from a brupak and it fermented for the 10 days. I did not take a reading to start as I did not have a hygrometer at the time . I'm a little unsure if I should just bottle it or if I took a reading now what would be a good number to look for ?

    Corking question

I've not been brewing long so what I'm about to say is from drinking and buying a lot of wine and port over a decade and a half . If you have wine/ port for over a decade I would say re cork because cork does degrade but getting out a great bottle only to find the cork has perished and killed a...

    Air lock with beer in

If I don't count outlay of demijohns airlocks and stuff I'm hoping to get a 500 ml for about 50/70pence so as long as I make enough it should be cost effective in about 4 or 5 batches as long I don't end up buying more equipment

    Air lock with beer in

Cheers I will think about that for the next 1 As the wife may think I'm spending more on making beer than on the beer itself I just wish the brew shop was a little closer as I'm not a fan of buying on the Internet. I like to see for myself the size and shape but I think 4 gallons of stuff...

    Air lock with beer in

I started brewing my first beer on Thursday and at some point the air lock has had beer come up and though it. I take its it's best to remove the air lock and clean and replace ASAP As well as clean the outside of the demijohn/carboy Any ideas welcome
