    S04 stops in the 1020's

I did an IPA awhile back and used a washed s04 starter. It only fermented down to 1020 and is way too sweet. I usually use us05 but was out so I tried the washed s04 I had. I just made an ESB that called for s04 so I used another washed starter. This beer is stuck at 1022 after 17 days. It's...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I brewed this 15 days ago and used a washed s04 starter. I checked the gravity after 8 days and it was down to 1024, 7 days later it was only down to 1020. I have not had good luck with getting s04 below 1020. I stirred up the cake yesterday and haven't noticed anymore activity. Does it seem to...

How long to wait to drink beer after having wisdom teeth pulled?

Lovvve vicodin. I always save the extras for when I throw out my back. I take one with a manhatten and the pain drifts awayyyyyyy.............

It's spring- and time for FISHING!

I'm heading out to one of the lakes this Saturday for some lake trout jigging. I have only been out once so far this year on the opening day of pike season and I got skunked.

Score! Tow 20lb CO2 Tanks from Craiglist

I can't find a place near me that fills tanks so I swap them at airgas too. The price is reasonable and the last time I went I swapped one of my rusty ****ty tanks for a sweet aluminum one. They don't care if the tank is expired or not when I trade them in and the ones I get back are clean and...

pinlock kegs at the scrap yard

I doubt it's worth it for me to flip them for a profit. I have a bunch of ball locks so I don't need them. I will stop back looking for other goodies.

pinlock kegs at the scrap yard

Nope, Seneca Falls. I'd buy them if I thought I could re-sell and make a little profit but they don't have the lids.

    fingerlakes

My wife's friends own an apple orchard and they told us that they lost at least 90% of their apple crap. They said most other orchards are reporting almost a 100% loss. It might be hard to get juice this year. I have three trees in my yard and they are looking pretty beat up.

pinlock kegs at the scrap yard

I just got back from dumping off a load at the local scrap yard (got $92 for junk that was in my garage!). I asked if they had any kegs in the stainless pile and they sent me over to look in a certain area. I found 13 pinlocks but they had no lids. The guy said that they were only like 60 cents...

    fingerlakes

I don't remember the name, someone showed me an add yesterday for the place. It's supposed to be a winery/micro and it's on 14. I think they open in a few weeks.

    fingerlakes

Strange coincidence! There is supposed be be another micro opening somewhere off Rt 14 close to Penn Yan.

    fingerlakes

Do you live in Interlaken? Have you been to the new brewery where the Inland Roadhouse used to be? It was open the other day when I drove by but I didn't have time to stop. Do you know anything about the new place thats opening in the Village of Interlaken?

    fingerlakes

Im in the Finger Lakes too. The only cider place close by that I know of is Bellweather Hard Cider down by Interlaken. They might do something there.

New NY brewing law being pushed

I wish I knew this law was coming a few years ago so I could have started a hop farm. We have several hop farms around us and they sell the whole crop before it's harvested every year. There is no way they could plant enough hops in the near future to keep up with local demand. We have 3 new...

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

I kegged the IPA I brewed a few weeks ago. I normally use us05 yeast but used some washed us04 this time so it's a little different from the normal recipe. I tasted the hydro sample and immediately noticed that it didn't seem as bitter as normal (a good thing). I tasted it again today and it's...

    Alehouse my Arse!

I hate that place, you would think with 30 taps there would be at least 1 decent beer.

Inexpensive (but good) reverse osmosis system?

I would prefer to have one in the basement so I could hook it to my fridge in the kitchen. I hate the smell of old ice and I think this would eliminate that problem to. I'm trying to read up on exactly how they work.

Inexpensive (but good) reverse osmosis system?

I could do that fairly easy and since I'm planning to move to Florida next year freezing shouldn't be a concern:) I guess I was thinking a RO system was pressurized either by the incoming water pressure or from the bladder tank and pump. If it isn't how do you hook them up to the...

Inexpensive (but good) reverse osmosis system?

I'm trying to avoid carrying buckets. My water supply is in the basement and I brew in my garage. I have a door between the basement and the garage but I have to climb a steep set of stairs and it wasn't fun doing it with water buckets. I was hoping that pump would push the water to my garage. I...

Inexpensive (but good) reverse osmosis system?

On the system you have how are you getting 20 gallons in an afternoon? The tank looks kind of small to me. I'm thinking of setting up a system like this in my basement, with the pump or pressure tank is it possible to hook a RV hose to the system and pump the water to my brew rig that is about...
