Pid controlled chest freezer is possessed

Well, I just found it below 0 again but I caught it before the keg froze again. I'm thinking that it has to be the thermocouple. I hooked up my old school johnson dial controller, hope it still works.

Pid controlled chest freezer is possessed

The one I have is just like the stc 1000 but it reads in fahrenheit. It has worked perfect for about 2 years and is working perfectly again after the deep freeze.

Pid controlled chest freezer is possessed

I had a keg of kolsch on gas and a half of a case of bottles in my chest freezer lagering at 35 degrees. Everything was fine for several weeks when I noticed the pid was reading minus 2 degrees. I opened the freezer to find exploded bottles and the keg frozen solid. The pressure relief valve...

Heady topper, sip of sunshine, Julius & sap yeast

I was fortunate enough to have someone bring a cooler full of these wonderful beers to Florida for me. I am pretty sure the heady and sos use conan a yeast and I have been saving the dregs from them. I haven't found the yeast strain used in Julius and sap and also if I can harvest whatever it...

Lots of fermentation stuck at 1.020

I think my issue was the washed us05 I was using. My ipa and pale ale both stopped at 1020 using it and they both have a slight bubblegum flavor. They are surprisingly good and maybe I'll just pretend I was making a belgian pale ale. I just took a gravity reading on 10 gallons of kolsch I made...

Lots of fermentation stuck at 1.020

Hmmmm, I did switch from Austin homebrew to a local shop.

Lots of fermentation stuck at 1.020

I have had the same issue since moving from ny to florida. The only changes I've made should be positive ones, I now have a temperature controlled fermenter, I use starters (usually washed yeast), I chill as fast as possible by pumping ice water through an immersion chiller and I use treated...

    Sparge or kettle water adjustments

I have been putting them all in the mash.

    Sparge or kettle water adjustments

Wonderful, now I'm more confused. I can't use bru n water for some reason with my tablet, no matter what I download it won't open. Brewers friend has a box that I can check that will allow me to add salts to the sparge or kettle also but if I'm already treating 8 gallons total like it says at...

    Sparge or kettle water adjustments

I have the box checked for adding to the mash . So if I am using 8 gallons total and 4 in the mash, I am only adding salts to the 4 in my mash, correct? I've heard of people treating the 8 gallons first but I thought some salts didn't dissolve in plain water.

    Sparge or kettle water adjustments

I use brewers friend and brew with distilled water. Since I started using brewers friend I have been making water adjustments to the mash only and my beer turns out good. I'm wondering if I should be treating my sparge water or adding anything to the kettle? Before using brewers friend I was...

    Florida 18.1 c.f. chest freezer

I have a used Kenmore 18.1 c.f. chest freezer I need to get rid of. I used it for a fermentation chamber and bought the biggest one I could find. It turns out I never need to ferment more than 10 gallons at a time so I bought a smaller freezer to save space in my garage. It does have a dent in...

    Making a fridge colder

My kegorator is a standard fridge on the bottom with a freezer on top. I keep it outside on my screened in patio and the fridge won't chill my beer below 42-43F. Normally this is fine but it's hot here in Florida most of the year and I'd rather have my beer pour at around 38. Would a simple...

    US05 or Nottingham ale yest

I'm making austin homebrew special holiday ale today. I had most of the ingredients on hand so I didn't order the kit. When I bought the kit it came with White Labs East Coast ale yeast. I currently have a pale ale fermenting in my chest freezer at 65° using us 05. I'm thinking I should use the...

    Maris otter - Cascade smash

I finally got around to brewing this today. I went with 10 pounds of marris otter and 1 oz. Cascade at 60, 1 oz at 15 and 1/2 oz. at 5. I'm fermented with a us05 starter. I can't wait to try it.

    Maris otter - Cascade smash

My hops are 6.4% and I come out with 47.2 ibus. Should i reduce them equally across the board to get to 35 ibus?

    Maris otter - Cascade smash

I like it. I will give it a try, thank you.

    Maris otter - Cascade smash

Actually the more I think about it I do want it to be more of a pale ale, I am brewing an IPA after that so I don't need two. And I do want to taste the Maris Otter I love the flavor of it so late top additions are probably out.
