    An Idiot and his conical

Usually after the cold crash you can just draw a pint or two and get most of the sludge. Then before you pour any beers moving forward wasting an ounce or two should be fine. I see you said it's a NEIPA, so my major concern would be hops clogging the poppet of the keg. Did you have your hops...

    Stir plates

Here's a direct link ( Stir Starters: Yeast stir plate for the home brewer )to the "Manufacturer's" website. I'm fairly certain it's a small operation and when I bought mine there was a nice little note in the box from the owner. I love my stir starter and it's extremely competitively priced...

Looking for advice on building a brew space

I've recently gone through just about everything you mentioned. I'll be honest I'm too lazy to write it all out here, but if you want to jump in my discord channel sometime and we can chat and I can show you all that I've done, pitfalls I've overcome etc, happy to do so.

brew day today. set a personal record

ESB is my favorite beer. Have my first self made recipe batch ready to be cold crashed probably this weekend. I had a 1.060OG, but it stopped at 1.019. First time using WLP002 on this style so not sure if that has anything todo with it or not (I usually use Wyeast London ESB). I've tasted it...

    Fermzilla AllRounder Insulating Jacket

Depends what you have your allrounder set on. Are you using the chilling coils or are you wanting this mainly for increasing temperature? My all rounders sit on a wire shelf system so I'm considering getting a couple sturdy pieces of cardboard to put under them that way the open bottom isn't...

Added yeast to my keg to get it to carbonate?

I would bet $50 this is what happened. Next time, add your sugar, then hit the keg with like 8 or 9 PSI to seat the lid and you'll be good to go.

    Water temp?

I would say if you have the ability to bring the temperature back up in a timely manner then no, can't really be "too cool." If you can't bring the temp back up then yes you could have some unintended consequences if you're wanting say a 160 mash temp, but your temp drops to 150-152 the amount...

Can you add too much yeast?

Are you using any brewing software by chance (Beersmith, Brewfather, etc) if so, they have yeast pitch calculators that will let you know how much yeast is ideal for your specific recipe or SG.

    Yeast Starters

Viking Malts has on their website they offer Gluten Free Malt Extracts though I haven't dug very deep into that. There are also additives out there that are supposed to decrease the amount of gluten in your wort/fermented beer that you may consider adding to a starter (Clarity Ferm by White...

What is this in my new kettle?

Well said. This is exactly why I'm using BKF mainly at the moment. It was on small localized spot that needed taken care of and I had BKF already on hand. I will eventually do an acid soak at some point, but it doesn't seem to need it quite yet.

What is this in my new kettle?

I use BKF for my spike kettle. I had similar spots appear in mine and I hit it with BKF instead of a full passivation with acid. I'll likely do a full acid passivation if I see a more widespread problem. That may not be the best path forward, but it's worked so far.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Hopefully introducing a friend of mine to brewing on Sunday. Plan to do my yearly batch of my take on the Norther Brewer Festivus Ale. It was a great beer from their extract kit, but I've been tweaking the all grain version and am excited to see how it turns out. Fingers crossed!

    Force carb kegs

Yes I should have mentioned I use a separate CO2 tank that's not hooked up to my main system to do this just in case.

    Force carb kegs

Oh yeah, definitely done this. If I'm doing the rolling keg technique this works better than the gas post in my opinion. Having the gas come in through the liquid instead of sitting on top makes me think that the bubbles having to travel all the way through the liquid helps a bit with getting...

    Windows 11

For anyone rocking an AMD processor, may want to think twice about upgrading to Windows 11 just yet. I've seen a couple articles that say it slows AMD processors and they pushed a update out that actually made it worse. Just do your research before clicking upgrade...

    Fining with gelatin under pressure

I do know there is a cooling coil available for the fermzilla's but I haven't purchased them, those and glycol chiller are still on my wishlist. I would imaging based on how they install into the lid of the fermzilla there shouldn't be any issue with the floating diptubes. Most of the time my...

    Fining with gelatin under pressure

I don't boil either in fear of this happening. My poppets have been clean so far. I don't gelatin in the fermenter because I use a Fermzilla All-rounder and it has a floating dip tub (as do my kegs) so I'm getting really clear beer after the cold crash, and then the gelatin in the keg is just...

    Fining with gelatin under pressure

I've tried this with mixed results. Part of the problem is you need the gelatin to cool and settle down through the liquid to the bottom, catching lost of yeast and haze proteins as it falls. My theory is (not scientifically proven, just my anecdotal experience) that when you put it in keg...

    Fining with gelatin under pressure

Reason why it should be cold is explained really well here: Using Gelatin at Higher Temperatures for Clarity Read @Auger 's reply (the second post).
