    Deal of the Century?

If you want a hardware store variety bucket, Lowes has a food grade, white bucket for about the same price. Don't have to question the yellow dye they used. But keep in mind that a 5g bucket isn't big enough for a 5g batch.

    Apple slice in bottle?

Yea, what ong said. The heat during the pasteurization would likely turn the apple to mush..

    Apple slice in bottle?

If that's the case, I'd wash/sanitize the knife and the whole apples, cut them into wedges and bottle. I highly doubt that anything would take over in the few days it takes to carb and you don't have excess starsan in the cider. Make sure to use a couple plastic bottles to test the pressure (I...

    Apple slice in bottle?

Starsan works on solid surfaces, that's why you'll hear of unknown strings of infections being traced to a scratch in a plastic fermenter. Apples are porous and the risk should be low, but still a possibilty. The infection shouldn't be anything that would harm you, but a lacto infection could...

    Apple slice in bottle?

Others will probably chime in with a similar reply, but the risk of infection is probably much bigger than the reward of having a slice in there. If you want the apple slice in the glass during serving, I suggest just adding one directly. Also, removing fruit from bottles (i.e. lime wedges)...

Racking on yeast cake. Fermentation going nuts!

I've never pitched on a yeast cake, however I have used a large amount of washed yeast with similar results, and that beer didn't have any odd flavors that would point at a yeast health issue. I'd let it ferment out for your usual time line to let the yeast clean up. Someone may correct me if...

What do you set your STC-1000 F2 to?

I use half a degree and the longest delay (ten minutes I think?) to preserve the compressor.

mash volume - how thin is too thin?

Definitely not an expert, but my BIAB results have been fairly consistent. I calculate the absorption of my grains, and use enough water to make a half gallon shy of my preboil volume. I heat the remaining half gallon to about 170 and rinse my grains. Average between 75 and 83% efficiency. My...

Finished beer is kicking my .... Rear

Assuming you are talking about the AIH kit, which seems to describe your procedures, I would assume that the OG reading was off. As devilsnight said, the temp of the sample must be factored in and there are calculators for this. However, since it is a kit, I would most likely just use their...

    Atomic Fireball Carb Drops?

My younger sister always thought those were too hot, so she would soak them in a cup of water and eat the hard candy part. The cinnamon layer is very thin and didn't impart much flavor into the cup of water. Also, I'm not sure she ever got one to really dissolve too much, even after a week or...

Drinking Heady Topper from the Can

I'd almost agree with auger, the fresh stuff is pretty cloudy from what I've seen. In his YouTube faq video John Kimmich says it's to make it less pretentious, or something along those lines.

Did you cold crash? The colder the solution, the more dissolved CO2. More CO2 = more bubbles
