As an previous apartment brewer, I am surprised you scorched wort on a stove top! Mine used to take about 30-40 mins to get 4 gallons to a boil. Are you BIAB? I still am and have never had an issue, even with a jet burner that I borrowed for a bit, but I suppose a super fine milling could cause...
Very cool, thanks for your future help!
I graduated this past year from college and now have some space to myself, so I got some hops into the ground. After keeping track of them for a bit, I realized adding more plants to my garden wouldn't add too much maintenance, so I planted some habeneros...
Hmm, best bet might be to mash it out and give the wort a taste. Could be anything from a blonde grain bill to a stout. I have seen crystal malts blend in pretty wrll so it's hard to tell.
Definitely enjoyed the oaked bastards I've had, so maybe look for something along those lines for sure. How about a big wee heavy? Also you could go down the rabbit hole that is sour beer.
Looks like lacto infection to me. Do you keg or bottle? I'd package from under the film and drink qyick either way. High carb levels could be an issue if you bottle. A very thorough clean and inspection of gear will be in order afterwords.
I see a few issues. They aren't made for pressure, so no sparkling wines. Also if I remember they are hand blown glass with bubbles which may cause sanitation issues. Corking/sealing will probably be interesting as well. First two probably aren't a big deal, I'd be worried more about the last issue.
I've heard citrus juice can give vomit type flavors when fermented, that's why zest is generally added. Maybe an interesting food recipe and add a bunch of zest to an ipa like grapefruit sculpin?
I'm doing an ipa with 1318 as I type. When I dry hopped at day 7 (first of two dry hops) I had to get my hops through the thicker than usual krausen. I put the hops in a bag and swished them through down into the beer.
Take what I say with a grain of salt, but if you aren't recirculating I think youd be good. Definitely on the small size for holes in ss. A false bottom usually has 3/32 inch (~2.4mm) holes so even the 400 micron stuff would be about 6 times smaller. Bags tend to be much finer though, I sewed...
Its not bad, not overwhelmingly good. With a name like CITRAdelic I kinda wonder the reason for including nine other hops in the mix. (Nugget, Crystal, Centennial, Azzaca, Cascade, Citra, Chinook, Galaxy, Mandarina Bavaria, Simcoe).
