Want to brew a belgium beer

I'm using a swamp cooler by the way and while I'm away at work I get some big temp swings. I've been using us-05 for most of my beers for this reason. Also like quads cause of the raisin flavors they can have. Can I do it with my set up?

Want to brew a belgium beer

So I'm still an amateur when it comes to brewing but I think I have a good amount of knowledge so far. I've made barley wines and Russian imperial stouts that have came out great but never made an high alcohol Belgium beer. I don't have the best temp control so I want to know what's the best...

    Dont use seirra nevada bottles

I have a ton of SN bottles and I haven't had a problem yet. I only had one problem with a broken bottle while bottling. It was a long neck bottle that broke right at the top of the neck. Cant think of what kind of bottle it was because I have so many different kinds but I haven't had a...

    Why do you homebrew?

The most rewarding part is opening a bottle and hearing the hiss of co2 escape. Then pour and taking a sip of all your hard work. But is there is a part of the process of making it that I enjoy the most is the boil. Hop additions and just the smell that you get from it is simply amazing.

Gravity went up .02 in a week!

It's probably temperate changes. The temperature of your liquid will change the reading. Your hydrometer is calibrated to read at 60 degrees. You can try to get it as close to that as you can or use an online calculator. I personally don't bother as long as you take the reading at the same...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Fort Collins Rocky Mountain IPA. Most of the beers that I don't care for are now becoming IPA's. their is just so many out now it's hard to differentiate the difference between them.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Just finished with my first two batches of this. I was inpatient and didn't soak the rice also I didn't know that it had to be steamed so I just boiled it. I went to my closes Chinese market and they had two different kinds of yeast balls the first was small and nothing really on the package...

    Wierd off flavor

So I brew a stone levitation ale clone and it tastes great but I'm getting a strange plastic flavor from it. I have no idea where this could be coming from. I don't filter my brewing water and just use what ever I get from my tap. I also fermented in a bucket. I know lots of people use them...

    Taking an gravity reading

I'm always scared to do that but if its been done with success ill do it. How long does it normally take to finish up usually so I won't have to take as many samples. Two weeks sound normal

    Taking an gravity reading

So I started my first cider about 5days ago and I guess I really didn't think it though all the way. I'm only doing a one gallon batch of this stuff and really don't want to waste to much of it taking gravity readings. How long does it usually take to get to finally gravity. I'm using an...

    Maple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine

Yeah they did some work! The beer was moved in the oak cubes today with the little bourbon that was left. The cubes soaked it all up. I mashed at 150 to see if I could get it to stay at 1.020 like you suggested but it ended up at 1.016 . I got crazy attenuation but I believe it's because I...

    Maple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine

So I have this fermenting for the last 9 day and got a gravity reading of 1.020 already hoping that it stays put. The sample gases great and I can't wait to have a glass of this when its done. I'm kind of scared to see what happens during bottling time. This is my first big beer and I'm...
