Heading into all grain....RIMS or Gravity?

The cooler setup is simpler (less gear), so it's a good start. That's why I thought I'd still use it even after I set up my RIMS. Didn't turn out to be the case though...I always end up reaching for my RIMS gear. Takes a bit more effort to set it up, but once it's going...it's easier to hit your...

How to whirlpool with fitting, but no dedicated port?

I had the same problem. I couldn't find a way to clamp it down firm. Eventually, I just used an S-hook and a worm clamp. Shown below are my whirlpool arm and my hop bag hanging from the hooks. If you're using a keg, it should already have some small holes in the top rim that are perfect for...

    Whirlpool Question

Sanitize your lid, then put it on the kettle when the temp gets below 140F (the threshold for DMS formation). After that, I would say there's very little reason to worry, especially if you have a really good yeast pitch ready. I used to worry about this too, but at the same time, others are...

    No-build fermentation chambers (?)

Nice of you all to chime in. Glad to see people are having success with some low-tech builds. I want to be able to do two buckets at a time, and I'm tired of carting ice around...I'll probably end up going with a chest freezer/Ranco controller.

    No-build fermentation chambers (?)

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear this is working for some folks. I'm assuming you just close the lid on all the cords and still get a good seal (?). I also plan to drop an Eva-Dry in there to help with the condensation...

    No-build fermentation chambers (?)

Hi all, Has anyone been able to put together a fermentation chamber with no (or minimal) drilling/building/wiring etc.? For example, I'm thinking something along the lines of a chest freezer with a pre-wired Ranco two-stage controller and a heating pad, with all the cords just running out...

How to whirlpool with fitting, but no dedicated port?

This is exactly what I do. Works well enough that I never bothered to install a dedicated whirlpool fitting. Plus, when the wort is chilled and the cone has settled, you just move the copper arm over to the fermenter and fill.

    Fermentation bucket with tap

I had these same questions a while ago. Somebody tipped me off to these: http://www.williamsbrewing.com/INVERT-TUBE-BACKNUT-P179C104.aspx Drill your hole a bit high, screw that backnut onto your spigot, and draw clean beer from just above the trub. Pop the lid open a bit anytime you do...

Any good ideas for securing/clamping accessories to the keggle?

Ok, finally got some pics. Below is my whirlpool arm: My current attachment solution involves a worm clamp, an s-hook, and the pre-existing drainage holes on the rim of the keg. Below is the whirlpool arm and a hop sock hanging from the rim: This works ok, but the whirlpool arm...

    Hopster Hopscreen

Great thread and great builds. I'm not sure how handy I would be with the stainless mesh and rivets...I'll have to give that some thought. But in the meantime, I got some good ideas from the parts lists, so I came up with the following no-build solution: I used two 4"x2" stainless...

Any good ideas for securing/clamping accessories to the keggle?

Thanks for jumping in. The main piece I'm trying to secure is a simple copper arm, pretty much like the one shown here: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_33_145&products_id=11894 I do have something kind of rigged up right now, but I was wondering if anyone had a...

    Ball bearing wort chillers

Oh, that's your answer to everything.

    Ball bearing wort chillers

Sounds explode-y. Also, there wouldn't be any convection going on. The balls would just adjust to the temperature, then sit there.

Any good ideas for securing/clamping accessories to the keggle?

Hi all, Just like the title says, I'm wondering if anyone has any good ideas for securing/clamping accessories to a keggle. I have a few items I'd like to clamp down, but in particular, I need a solution for my copper whirlpool arm. I use a long, over-the-top-style copper arm to...

    different poppets

Check the thread below for info on another brand of universals. So far, good feedback all around. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/poppet-valves-228223/

    Calling all Pump-in-a-toolbox-owners!

Two things I've learned while tweaking my box: -Use a bleeder valve. I tried other workarounds (including an autovent), but I never got great results. -Use zip ties to secure the parts. That way, if any sticky wort gets in there, you can pull everything out and clean it up.

first hefeweizen, how does it look?

I guess you're not step mashing on this one, but it seems like a lot of folks use a ferrulic adic rest (111F @ 5.6-5.7 pH) to draw more clove flavors.
