Didn't mix priming sugar well enough

That's usually what I do. I'm sure everything is fine. I think the excessive amount of chaos in my house today (I have a toddler and an infant), added to these long, cold winter nights are just making me panicky for some reason. Thanks Revvy! EDIT: This, thankfully, will be one of the last...

Didn't mix priming sugar well enough

I goofed and didn't mix my priming sugar into the beer well enough. I did what I usually do and put the solution into the bottling bucket and then racked the beer onto it. I had a pretty gentle racking for whatever reason, and even though I had a nice, slow whirlpool, I don't think the sugar...

    Irish coffin sizing help

I just snagged a great 15 cu ft Frigidair freezer on CL and I'm off to the races designing my keezer. Planning on a collarless design, with a 5' countertop on 4' lid, with a 4' Irish coffin style box at the back of he countertop to make a sort of kitchen island, which will eventually form part...

Poor carbonation affecting my sex life ...

Could the swing tops be leaking some C02 out? Maybe try a test where you bottle some into regular crown topped bottles and see if it helps?

    Filtering post boil?

I am so doing this from now on.

    Brewing in the cold

Brewed in the garage this week at about 12F. Not bad, really. I mash a little lower anyways as I seem to taste the hops more (my favorite part of beer) at a lower FG, so it works out ok for me.

Converting the Frigidaire 7.2 cu ft Chest Freezer

Some awesome builds here... anyone know if the 7.2 Frigidaire fit 3 pin-locks and a 10# tank on the bottom (no collar)? They're on sale at Best Buy and I have some gift cards so I'd like to use this freezer for 2 taps on a tower/coffin + one carbing and add a counter top to the lid as a kitchen...

    Stainless Steel Auto Siphon

So the racking cane in my autosiphon set just snapped (it was realllllly cold out and the plastic must have been very brittle and it just cracked right off while I was setting up) and I want to replace it with a stainless steel cane - can I use it with my siphon tube, if so are there any...

    Hops mix/blend

Took your advice, and I'm brewing the following RIGHT NOW. I combined the hops and smashed them with a rolling pin. Didn't pulverize them, but broke them up into ~1/4 of the original pellet size. Ok, gotta go collect my first runnings! Grains & Adjuncts Amount Percentage Name...

Frigidaire 7.2 Chest Freezer..... Collar Size?

Reviving this old thread because I'm looking at the 7.2 cu.ft. Frigidaire at Best Buy (sale and some gift cards from Christmas) and would like to know if I could fit 3 pin lock kegs and at least a 5# co2 tank on the bottom area without a collar. I'd like to build a small kitchen island on the...

    Hops mix/blend

I'm going to mix and do nearly continuous additions. I did a quick test and crushing the pellets might be too much of a chore, as will weighing and sorting them into little batches. I'll try a few other things to see if they break up more though (they're surprisingly resilient)! Here's what I...

    Hops mix/blend

That's a pretty good idea, I'll have to try and see how much they work it takes to get them to crumble.

    Hops mix/blend

I think I a can "combat" this by doing a near-continual hops addition. Most of the hops are very close in AA anyways, and I think I might do small additions every 10 minutes from 60 through 10, then a 5 minute, flameout, and dry addition. Should average out even more that way.

    Hops mix/blend

That's what I was thinking... I know the weights of what I have and the AA % of each so I can calculate the average AA of the mix and use that for my calculations. It could be a little off if I get a little more of one hops than the other in a particular sample, but 5 out of 6 oz are within 8%...

    Hops mix/blend

Anyone ever combine a variety of hops pellets into a mix then add the blend at all your various addition points rather than separate variety additions? I'm putting together a "must go" APA to use up my last 6oz of last years hops (Centennial(1oz), Hallertauer(3oz), and Tettnang(2oz)) and was...

What would you say about the difference between the 2 row and the MO? Noticeable? Anything stand out about either one?

    SMaSH Advice

I ordered about 4# of hops, spread across maybe 6 varieties. I want to learn about their flavors, so I'm planning a series of small, 3 gal SMaSH batches to compare them. I like a hoppy APA, very, very much (drinking Founders Endurance Ale APA, which might be the best beer I've ever had, as we...

    Small batch brewing......

I use a 4 gallon PETE plastic water bottle from Menard's (hardware store), comes with water for $5.50. Perfect for a 3 gallon batch which I think is better than a 2.5 gallon batch because I seem to get the same amount of yeast cake and gunk out of a half batch as a full batch, so the yield from...

    Worth DIYing a chiller?

You also don't need to go with 50' of expensive copper with DIY. I did mine with 20'(!) and it works fine, albeit slower, for about $20. As for the time, it takes almost none. Buy a high temp washing machine hose with your copper, cut it in half (actually, I did a 1/3 and 2/3 piece so I could...

Cheap (free) vacuum packer for hops

$30 is halfway to a seal-a-meal type device, or better yet about 2-3 pounds of hops, which I think I would rather have. :/ Neat product, but I guess I was going for FREE rather than cheap. I'm going to try Catt22's water test this weekend, so we'll see how it goes.
